Kaitlyn's P.O.V
I guess I had to babysit four kids now, even though two of them were older then me. I walked over to Pony and Johnny, and sat down next to them.
" Well looks like we get to watch you now, Pony. " I said with a small laugh.
" I'll pass. " he said.
" We ain't that bad Pony, c'mon. " I said smiling.
" No you're not, but I don't need a babysitter. " he said putting out his cigarette.
" Well then, just say were hangin' out. " I said throwing both my arms out to the side and shrugging.
" That makes it a little easier to stand, I guess. " he said as he stood up and walked over to the swings, leaving Johnny and I.
" That kid sure is a weird one. " I mumbled to myself.
" Yeah, he is. But he's a good kid. " Johnny said looking at Pony with a small smile on his face.
" Yeah, I guess you're right. " I said looking at Johnny. We sat in silence for a few minutes, then Johnny spoke up.
" Thanks. " he said staring down at his feet.
" For what? " I asked confused on what I was being thanked for.
" For what you did back at my place. I know I already said thanks, but I wanted to say it again. " he said looking up at me.
" Oh, it's not a problem. I hate seeing your mom treat ya like that, it ain't fair. She ain't got no right to do that. " I said, some of the hate coming through in my voice.
My friends could always tell when I was mad or upset. When I was either of those, my grammar would get real bad." Yeah, I know. " he said softly. We sat there in silence for a little while, then I realized it was getting late. Pony, Connie, Laura, and I all had school tomorrow, so we had to get home.
" Well, we all should head home. " I said loudly, so everyone could hear me. They all just nodded, and we started to walk to our houses, except for Johnny.
" Hey Johnny, you can sleep at my place tonight, if ya want. " Pony offered.
" I dont want to intrude on you and your brothers like that. " he said.
" You're not, y'know the door's always open for anyone who needs it. " Pony said smiling.
" Okay, if you say so. " he gave in. We walked to Laura's house first, then Connie's, then I made sure Pony and Johnny got to the Curtis house safely, and I finally went home.
Connie's P.O.V
I just got home from hanging around with most of the gang, and I knew I had to get ready for bed. I did have school tomorrow, which I didn't want to go to. Not only because it was Monday, and the first day, but because I would have to deal with Soc kids yelling greaser at me, or look at the nasty greaser.
Socs were the rich kids, they had everything they ever wanted. Not a care in the world, while us greasers sometimes had to work three jobs just to provide for our families.
The Socs usually jumped greasers, and were all around real pains. It was like they didn't have anything else to do with their life except ruin ours.
I walked upstairs and into the bathroom. I started doing my normal routine, brushing my teeth, changing, and brushing my hair. I knew my brother was probably asleep already, so I tried to stay quiet.
I walked into my room and laid down on my bed, I grabbed my book, and started to read. I usually read at least fifteen minutes each night, if not more.
I finally turned out the lights, and started to fall asleep. The last thing I heard before I fully gave in to sleep, was my dad coming home.
I woke up around 6 : 30, which was a normal time on school days. I got right out of bed, and started getting ready. I brushed my teeth and hair, and through on some jean shorts with a purple shirt and converse.
I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. My brother, Collen, was already eating breakfast." Mornin'. " he said eating his cereal.
" Mornin'. " I said grabbing some bread, so I could make toast.
" First day of eighted grade, huh? You excited? " Collen asked between bites of cereal. Collen was fifteen, and he was in tenth grade.
" Yeah, I guess. How about tenth grade? " I asked.
" I'm sure it won't be much diffrent from past years. " he said putting his cereal bowl in the sink.
" Probably not. " I said with a small laugh, as I sat down with my toast. I started to eat, but I was interrupted.
" You have three minutes till you need to start walking. " Collen said.
" Okay. " I said as I grabbed my stuff, and gave my brother a hug. I started my walk to school. It didn't take me long to get there, the thing I hated was that I had no one to walk with.
The whole gang was in high school, just like my brother. Even Pony was in high school, but that's because he skipped a year. So I walked alone everyday and it got quite boring and lonely.
I walked into school, and went to my locker. I didn't really have friends in school, so I was just kinda a loner. I opened up my locker, and started to put my things away. Of course I couldn't ever do anything in peice." Oh look, it's the gross greasy dog. " I heard a girl say from behind me, I tried to ignore her, but she kinda bothered me. This wasn't anything new, it happened every school year.
I just continued to put my things away, until I got pushed. The girl and her friend had pushed me into the lockers. I hit my eye, and I knew it would bruise. I heard them laugh as they walked away. They weren't just some Socs who were being mean because I was a greaser, they were full on bullies.
I heard the bell ring, and I shut my locker. I walked to class, avoiding everyone I saw, Soc or greaser. I walked into my science classroom, and sat down. The teacher started to talk about something, but I wasn't paying attention.
I always hated the first day of school, it was pointless to me. All we did was talk about rules and expectations, for like a whole week. What was the point, telling kids the rules repeatedly isn't going to make people follow them, if anything it would make them not want to follow them.
I got hit in the head with a pink peice of paper. I picked it up off the floor, and opened it.You shouldn't be in this class. You're making it dirty, grease.
I looked back at the Socs who through the paper at me and crumpled it up. I didn't care what they said, I knew not to say anything. If I did, they would probably try and beat me or something, and I was scared of fights.
I know it's hard to be a greaser when you're scared of fights, but I couldn't help it. When you grow up on a part of town where people get killed in fights, it gets pretty scary, especially as a thirteen year old.
I snapped back to reality when my teacher hit the side of my desk. I jumped when her hand made contact with the table, and everyone laughed at me, except for a few greasers in the back of the class.
I hid my face in my textbook, I knew my face looked like a tomato. I could tell my day was going to go downhill from there, and I was right.
