Soft gentle cooing and a comforting embrace was all (Y/N) felt as she cried herself to sleep in Toshinori's arms. He had held her there in the kitchen for what seemed like hours while she attempted to explain what had happened. Though in this devastating state, the man was smart enough to place the proper pieces together in its puzzle.
His friends apartment complex had been crushed during the villains rampage that day, and now she had no home.
The man let out a miserable sigh, hooking his arm under the sleeping woman's knees while he held her against his chest with his other hand. Being as gentle as he could the retired hero left the kitchen and made way to his room at the very end of the corridor. Though he had some minor struggle with opening the door knob he managed to enter without stirring the (h/c) haired woman in the slightest.
After stepping over a small pile of clothes that needed a wash, Toshinori stood still as he took a look at the mountain of pillows on his bed with a soft glare. He quietly damned himself for requiring so many pillows, but with years of being by himself he couldn't get a good nights rest if he wasn't snuggling up to something. Raising a long leg, the blonde kicked the pillows off to the other side of the mattress in an awkward manner, trying his best to keep his balance with an adult woman in his arms. Once he was satisfied, the man carefully placed (Y/N) snuggly onto the Northern styled bed, pulling the cool comforter up to the woman's chest.
The man sat down on the side of her next to her waist, being cautious not to rouse her as he watched the stillness of her face quietly. Toshinori allowed himself to reach over and move some hair off her forehead before he completely removed himself off the bed again. She deserved some peace now after the emotional rollercoaster she's had to endure all day.
Taking a quick glance at the clock on his bedside, the man sighed.
6:45pm.
While the woman slept, Toshinori picked up his room silently, not wanting to feel embarrassed if she happened to wake up to a less than tidy room.
After cleaning up and slipping the door shut, the blonde floated toward the living room to rest on his couch. Toshinori let out a long sigh, ignoring his almost cracked reflection on the black television screen as he reached for the phone in his pocket.
The man began to search for news articles regarding the incident that with the villain. He looked for videos, or anything he could get his hands on about what happened to (Y/N's) apartment complex. He needed to know.
This was because for some reason, he felt as if all of this was somehow his fault.
The retired hero let his thumb hover over a link to a recorded video as he gazed off into nothing. He grumbled softly to himself, tossing his phone to the side before he slid his palms up to his face. Turning this situation around and making it about him made him feel like an ass for even thinking about it.
But he couldn't help it.
He had dealt with years of being the rock for other people, decades of being the person others turned to for guidance; safety. If he wasn't retired, it would've taken just one punch to defeat that villain, and maybe his dear friend still would have her home. Being in retirement now, Toshinori felt like that was all he could think about.
All his regrets.
He felt himself shake, caging himself in his long arms as he hugged his sides, an angry tear falling down his thin face as the harsh negative voice continued to scream at him. He thought of (Y/N) and her devastation, all the people in his past Toshinori felt he disappointed, even his successor, young Midoriya. It was if they were all yelling at him in his mind.
