Hospitals always smelled sterile and clean.

Many are born in hospitals, and many die in them.

Toshinori in the various times in his life believed he would die young in a hospital just like this, always thinking of these walls more dreary and depressing rather than life-saving and giving. This was an expected belief with his long life work as a hero, always putting himself in harm's way.

When he had sustained his traumatic injury from his first fight with All For One, the man had not been certain at that time if he would ever leave that cold hospital bed. Those blank hospital walls.

It was astonishing to him that now, years after his life changing injury, he was back at another hospital for another life changing occurrence. In what may possibly be hours now, he would become a father, and (Y/N), a mother.

The retired man was thankful to the medical staff for immediately jumping into action once he and his wife arrived through the front hospital doors. The contractions had begun coming in more frequently now, causing a great deal of pain to the small woman he held up with both his long arms. (Y/N), as she did her part to control her breathing maintained a scrunched up expression with one hand grasping onto the back of Toshinori's shirt, and the other protectively holding her swollen stomach up from under her belly button.

One of the nurses who had been standing near the receptionist desks to look at a patient's chart heard the audible labored breaths of the retired woman and turned. It only took one look as Toshinori's fearful cerulean gaze caught the nurses wide ones, then glancing toward the woman pressed up beside him.

In a matter of seconds with a sense of urgency, (Y/N) was being hauled in a wheelchair to the delivery room to prepare for birth.

Toshinori as the father who would soon accompany his wife to greet their new life, was covered in a mint green protective gown and mask before arriving at the door to the room after being guided by a nurse. After he was instructed to sit and wait for another nurse to bring him into the delivery room, the man waited, his knee bouncing violently and his sanitized hands gone clammy.

In light of the growing panic he felt in his heart, the blonde man had enough thought in him to call (Y/N's) parents to let them know about the delivery and text his successor that everything was fine at the hospital. In the rush to leave, Toshinori left both Izuku and Uraraka at their home still, his priorities moving from a kind and doting host to a freaking out husband. In the back of his racing brain he knew his mentor and his other past student already understood the complete importance of the situation and was not worried about  them having any negative feelings toward him for picking up and leaving so suddenly.

The call he attempted to his in-laws he found was a bust after some tries to contact them, vaguely reminding himself that his wife's parents were probably already asleep by this time.

Izuku was quick to respond back to the text he sent, wishing the soon-to-be father good luck and reassurance that they'd keep the house safe while the two were at the hospital.

After making sure of this, Toshinori put away his phone; not without some difficulty.

Once he fully realized he was alone in the hospital hallway, waiting to be allowed in to see the delivery and to be there for his (Y/N), he found that he was shaking from his head down to his feet.

The helpless man fumbled with trembling hands to tug the bands of his mask behind his ears, already hearing his wife's muffled agonized cries of pain from beyond the closed door he waited near. One particular scream that ripped through the door's barrier was enough to make his weakened hands let go of the disposable mask and drop it onto his lap.
