CHAPTER III —
NEVER NEEDED YOU.
THEY MADE IT TO HER HOUSE JUST AS the downpour began and Cassidy carefully got off of the small bike before making a break towards her front door. She was halfway up the stairs when a crack of deafening thunder caused her to jump and her foot slipped on the slick pavement.Like he had earlier, JJ grabbed her arm and caught her before she could hit the ground, subconsciously pulling her into his chest instead of just letting go right away. He stared down at the blonde girl, her soaking wet bangs framing her face in a way that gave her a childlike look of innocence, and then he finally released his grip.
Cassidy didn't move away from him, however, simply mumbled a quiet, "Thanks." She turned to look at the dark house infront of her and jumped again at the sound of more thunder.
JJ knew that if he wanted to be able to make it back to John J's before the onslaught of the storm, he'd have to leave right away. The crazy thing was, the boy couldn't bring himself to just abandon her there when she was clearly drunk and alone, her fear evident in the way she looked up at the darkened windows.
"Where's your parents?" He asked her, turning to look at the empty driveway for a moment before he looked back at her. She met his eyes and frowned, twisting the necklace around her neck.
"Uh— My dad's in the Gulf, I think," she murmured the answer to him and then gently lifted up a pot besides the door and grabbed the spare key, slipping it into the keyhole before she pushed open the front door and stepped inside.
When she turned around and saw that JJ wasn't moving, a small frown fell over her face and she crossed her arms. "Y-you can come in," she offered, cursing herself for the way that she sounded so small compared to the normal tone of voice she used. Truth was, she just didn't want to be alone right now and if the only company she had was some dirty pogue, then so be it.
JJ took a couple of steps towards her and finally walked into the house behind him, his eyes darting to every detail he could see despite the darkness around them. He had never been in a house so big, even when he had spent nights at Kiara's, this house put hers to the uttermost shame.
Cassidy closed the door behind him and flicked on the lights before she walked towards what he realized was her kitchen. She pulled her sweatshirt off and over her head and JJ couldn't help but stare at the way her wet t-shirt was now revealing a very red bra.
She looked at him and then down at herself and coughed uncomfortably, a small snicker leaving her lips as he blushed and looked away to focus his attention on anything other than her and her revealing clothes.
"Do you want anything to drink? We have vodka, uh, I think we have some beers—"
"Beer is good," JJ answered automatically and Cassidy smiled, opening the large fridge before she pulled out a few cans and tossed him one. She cracked open her own after he did, relaxing once the alochol began to build atop the drunk she had thought she had lost.
