CHAPTER XXVI —
GOD, PLEASE KILL ME.
CASSIDY HAD NEVER RAN SO FAST IN HER LIFE AND THE TEARS FALLING down her face only increased her emotionally fueled sprint faster than before. Her heels had fallen off half a mile down the road and the pavement made her feet ache but still, she continued to run until she finally made it to the Blaire residence.
At the sight of the empty driveway, her heart fell even more. She needed her father more than ever right now. She needed someone, anyone, right now. She needed to not be alone and yet here she was, more alone than she had ever been.
She staggered up the stairs and into her house, her back falling against the door as she let out a quiet sob. Her entire body began to shake as the soft sounds left her mouth, her eyes stinging and her hands balled up in fists.
As if she had snapped out of her haze, she found her way to her feet and stumbled into the kitchen. She snatched the bottle of vodka from the freezer and unscrewed the top before tossing the cap into the abyss of the dark room. She didn't know what the hell she was doing but the moment the familiar burn of alcohol hit her throat, she felt a tiny bit better.
Cassidy fumbled with her phone and her fingers hovered over Rafe Cameron's contact, her vision blurry from the continuous stream of tears that had yet to cease falling. After another moment, her finger fell to the bottom and the contact vanished from her screen.
"Cmon Cass – you got this," Cassidy hissed to herself, chugging more of the bottle as she exited the room and stomped up the stairs. She glanced at her open door and then followed the direction of Renee's paintings on the wall, finally landing on her fathers own closed.
She slowly made her way towards the door and twisted the knob before closing it behind her, her attention falling to the bathroom and her feet carried her towards the dim light.
The bottle hung loosely in her hand and was, every so often, brought to her lips as she caught sight of the closed medicine cabinet. She gently placed the vodka on the counter and pulled open the mirror, her eyes scanning over the contents.
At last, she leaned forward and grabbed the white pill bottle with a small smile. She rolled it in her hand and smiled even more when she saw the small words printed on the label.
Hydrocodone.
Cassidy hesitated before unscrewing the lid and shaking two of the small white pills into her palm. There was another beat of hesitation before she tossed them into her mouth, the bottle finding its way back to her lips as she washed them down.
Almost instantly, she recapped the bottle and placed it back into his spot, the cabinet closing right behind it as she made her way out of Christian's room and into her own.
