WHEN CASSIDY FINALLY OPENED HER EYES, it was barely past 10 o'clock and the morning sun was pushing it's way through the blinds of her room. She groaned and pulled the pillow out from under her head, dropping it over her face as she attempted to block out the light.

She prayed that nobody had stayed the night after what had gone done hours before, her empty bed only raising her hopes that she was alone in the house like she wanted to be at that very moment. She didn't want to speak to anyone and she sure as hell didn't want to speak to Rafe, especially after her actions.

Her body rolled off the bed with a huff of effort and she froze as nausea washed over her with strength she had never felt, her stomach turning at the slightest movement. The morning had barely even started and she wanted to crawl right back into bed and pretend it never even did.

Instead of doing what she craved to do, Cass made her way over to the dressed and pulled out a bathing suit before pausing at the sight of the wetsuit folded up neatly in the corner. She ran her hand along the neoprene material and sighed, pulling it out as well.

She hadn't touched the board downstairs since her mother had passed, deeming the sport too hard to face. Renee had taught her how to surf before she had learned to ride a bike and Cassidy wouldn't have it any other way. The only time she felt at ease was when she was in the water in which she was practically raised, the only place that seemed to calm her mind's continuous attack on her body.

The blonde quickly changed and brushed her teeth before making her way downstairs and into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water and some sort of food to calm her stomach down. Her feet then began to carry her towards the back patio where her surfboard rested just outside the door, her heart swelling at the sight.

Her mom had gifted it to her shortly after her thirteenth birthday. She had finally deemed Cass talented enough to spend the money on a board without the risk of her destroying it and she remembered how excited she was to finally bring it out into the water and show off for John B and his father. She also remembered how jealous John B had been, begging her to try it just once despite the fact that she never even thought about letting him.

The memories almost sent her racing back into her room, tears pooling in her eyes as she wiped them away angrily. She was tired of being crippled by the death of her mother and today was the day that she was getting back in that water whether she wanted to or not.

With a grunt of effort, Cass lifted the board off the ground and made her way down the walk-way to the sand. She paused for another moment as she looked down at the crashing waves, the debate going on inside her brain once more until she silenced her thoughts and dropped the water bottle onto the sand, racing towards the water like she had once lived for.
