Birthday letters

"Clair!" Julia runs up behind me and links her arm in mine." you gonna try out for the soccer team?" I smirk "hell yeah!" "then let's go dork!" she says grabbing my arm and pulling my arm along.

Julia and I have changed into our gym clothes shorts and a tee shirt. julias doing the stretches I never have to do. she looks up to me "how old are you turning today?" "eight," I say and smile  "but I guess it would be 18?" she nods."that sounds about right" "wanna come over later Jeannie and Richard are making me whatever I want for dinner"  she grins "I'll come if you can beat me in a race" I smirk "oh jewels you know I will" she shrugs "I might get lucky this time" "your coming anyway though" "yeah obviously!" she says as if I've just said something ridiculous. "ok then," I say and kneel the way my father taught me to before racing kaya in wolf form. "go!" Julia says and spirts forward I wait for 1-2-3 seconds then run after her easily catching her "where are we racing to?" I ask causally slowing down to ask her "goal post" she pants and puts in an extra burst of speed. just for fun, I sprint past her and in about 5 seconds I'm leaning against the goal post. when Julia makes it to me she's panting like a dog. "good game my slow human friend" I laugh. "GIRLS!" our gym teacher mr.loyd runs over. I shrink back expecting him to be angry. "how did you do that?" he asks looking at me "do what?" I ask confused "not tire and run faster than my star player!?" Julia winks shes the best in our group at coming up with stories to explain my abilities "she trained with a master of breathing in Japan and now she can keep her breath steady even in the toughest situations on your lungs so you see shes perfect for the team!" mr.loyd looked stunned "well ok then" he starts to walk away then turns smiling "happy birthday by the way" "thank you" I nod then lean over to Julia "when it's your birthday I'm going to embarrass you so bad!" she laughs "I'm already planning for tonight!" I punch her arm lightly.

after tryouts, mr.loyd came up to us and asked us both to be on the team. then we walk to lunch to meet the rest of our group. Kayden walks up to me and pulls a red rose from behind his back "happy birthday to my real-life fairy princess" I smile and peck his lips needing to stand on my tiptoes because of his hight. "you can't keep her over there forever Kayden!" Carly calls over to us.shes extremely nice to me but I still have trouble looking at her because of her similarities to Chris." there's my magical double!"  "happy birthday charlie" I smile at him. he bows his head "to you as well" I smile and do a curtsy "thank you very much sir" Kayden snakes his hands around my waist hugging me close to him and resting his head on my shoulder. "I have a little gift for you," kaya says getting up and pulling me away from Kayden and sitting me down in the middle of the bench to our group's table. "it's from your friends in alzar...do you still want it?" I nod. she pulls out three pieces of neatly folded paper "I was able to contact Alice...magnolia and Chris were a lot harder to contact I almost wasn't able to but with hours of work we got these three notes" she smiles and I hesitantly reach over grabbing the first paper which reads in kayas scribbled writing

dearest sweet clarity, 

I haven't met you very well but I hope to very soon. I am travelling out of alzar in the hope you can help me. but that's not birthday related kaya should have the necklace I burned for you it may be a little coal dusted but if you run it in some cold water it should be fine. anyway have a wonderful day my dear.

the next one from Magnolia has a different writing kaya must have had to go fully into magnolias' mind to get her letter. magnolias neat curly writing is smudged in some places with what it seems to be tears it reads...

dear Clair,

o, sweety,y i wish i could be there to celabrate your birthday with you. I wish I could see the young women Chris says you are now instead of the 7-year-old I remember. there are so many things I need to tell you but I couldn't bear to ruin your day with them. the only thing I will say is to try and contact me again tomorrow I need to talk to you in person.

I hope you are happy with your life and your boyfriend and school. I want to see your face more than anything in the world. life is going in a turn for the worse here magnolia isn't well. I have no clue where Alice is and someone has died I will not say who because magnolia told me not to but she will tell you tomorrow. anyway happy birthday little goose I love you

I look over to kaya "thank you so much kai" she smiles "here's the necklace from Alice" she pulls out a small necklace with a silver chain and a rough cut green stone. I take it in my hand "it's beautiful" I say smiling "help me put it on?" I ask Kayden. he nods and clasps the silver chain around my neck. Julia smiles "it really highlights your eyes" "thanks" "but what about your brother?" she says "well he's not really my brother.i'm more related to Alice but Chris probably told him and he doesn't want to talk to me," I say sadly.
