Faith laid on her bed. She had received texts and never ending calls. It was December 22nd, Faiths birthday. She was turning 16 and her dad was coming home for the day. Right before we left, about five months ago, he promised to be back for her birthday. Her mom made the same promise multiple times, she barely came. So she was just expecting Keith, her father. She waited for hours. She never left her house that day, she had her phone on hand. She was waiting. Waiting for her dad, who never broke a promise. Unlike other people.

It was around seven thirty when the sun was setting. She tried to reach out to him but nothing. She waited some more. Nothing. Three more hours passed. Nobody had came. She went to her bed and laid there starting to lose hope. An hour passes. Someone knocks on the door.

She jumps out of bed and runs to the door. She opens it but it isn't who she wanted to see. Her mom stood at the door all scratched up with a small little gift box. "Happy birthday princess," her mom said smiling.
"Don't call me that. You don't have the right to." Faith lead her inside and closed the door behind her. "Where is my dad? Where is Keith?" Faith asked suspicious, and mostly concerned that something had happened.
"Faith, I'm going to be honest with you. However, you need to sit down, you might not enjoy what I'm about to say," her mom said with her fake ass smile fading.
"Go on.." Faith said impatiently sitting down in front of her.
"Faith, me and your dad have many things we never told you but had planned on telling you. I can't explain it to you now, it wouldn't be right for me to explain it. He would want to explain it to you since I left him alone to raise you. I'm a horrible mother I know, you probably won't consider me to even be your mom anyway. But Faith, your the only family I have left. Everyone else left me... even your dad..." Faith's mom started to clutch tightly onto the box with tears in her eyes.
"I failed him... I'm so sorry," she said crying.
"What happened...?" Faith said getting up. "Where is my dad?! What did you do!?" Panic and hatred filled her voice.
"Faith your dad is dead. He died yesterday during a mission in space." Her mom said looking down. She refused to see Faith cried.

"Your lying.... please tell me your lying," Faith said looking directly at the older women in front of her.
"I'm not, I wish I was. He wanted me to give you this when I got back... I forgot today was your birthday until I looked at the card." She said handing Faith the box.
Faith grabs the box with tears pouring out of her eyes.
"I'm sorry..." she said and got up, she tried to hug her daughter. Faith pushed her away.
"Get out of my life, just because I lost my dad doesn't mean you get to be my mom again. I don't need you! I HOPE YOU DIE!" Faith screams at her. "You don't know anything about me and I bet you don't know shit about him. I don't need your comfort and I never will! Just go back to wherever you've been!" Faith stopped yelling and wiped her tears, she walked away. Her mom kept staring at the ground, she believed that Faith was being honest. She didn't say anything to her. Her mom watched her walk away.

Faith locked herself in her room

Faith locked herself in her room. She placed the box on her bed and opened it. Keith's jacket and gloves sat in the box along with his blade. Tears land on the blade and the other stuff inside of it. The card at tear drops on it that smudged some of the words. This only upset her more. "You promised me that you'd come back... you promised. You never break your promises. Why now?" Faith threw the stuff onto the floor and hugged his jacket crying. Faith cried for about twenty mi hates before going through the rest of the box.

She grabbed a black tablet hidden on the bottom. After about ten minutes of messing around with the passcode she unlocked the devise. It was the tablet Keith had used to record videos that he used to send to her, it's how they communicated from far away. It was there secret, and now it was just hers.
Faith watched every single video on the tablet, sending the videos to her phone so she could keep them permanently and with her always. She spent two hours with the videos pausing at the last one that was filmed moments before he died. She watched it, crying throughout the whole thing. Most of the video was sorta muffled out by her tears but what she remembered from what he said was soemthing she will never forget him saying, "Faith I love you my baby girl, I'll always be with you. I'll see you soon. I promise." She replayed that ending five times before she fell asleep.

Her mom was outside waiting for her to sleep. Once she found Faith asleep she left her gray jacket with the NASA logo on bed. She pulled a blanket over Faith and kissed her forehead. "Goodnight Faith, I love you.." she said with one final smile. She left, just like Faith said.

She left, just like Faith said
