A Task

I am so happy today, I can't believe I found a task this easily! Now I will have a chance to find a person right for me and all the Zoras. Perhaps even another chosen champion! I'll start from the beginning of today.

Every Sunday I have to train Sidon in something new, last week we did stealth and tracking and he was actually really good! I mean, he did snap a branch once, but he was just nervous. I am really proud of my little brother, and I love him with all my heart.

So today I had another lesson planned out - to teach him how to swim up a waterfall. All Zoras have to learn it someday, it is a skill unique to the Zora people. I led Sidon down to the bottom of the waterfall and showed him how to swim up. When I got to the top, I was surprised to find Zelda, the princess of Hyrule, at the top.

"Zelda! What are you doing here?" Zelda and I are old childhood friends.

She smiled at me. "I've come to ask you something."

Zelda launched into an long speech about how a Divine Beast (Vah Ruto or something?) was found recently in the East Reservoir Lake near Zora's Domain, and they were looking for a champion to pilot it. She rounded off the whole speech by saying. "Would you be the champion of the Zoras... Mipha, would you like to pilot the Divine Beast?"

My heart must have stopped with excitement! Was this the task I had been looking for? I squealed a little, I must admit. "Of course! Of course I will accept your offer, Zelda!"

Zelda smiled gratefully, and I bent down to look for Sidon. He was still too nervous to swim up the waterfall. "So, Princess... may I ask who the other chosen champions are?"

She looked at me happily, and said. "Goron vigilance, Daruk." Well I know him, he's a great guy... "Gerudo spirit, Urbosa." Oh! The chief of the Gerudo! "Rito confidence, Revali." Now who is that?

"And also..." Zelda's face fell a little, she seemed almost angry. "the Hylian with the sword that seals the darkness." She said those last few words quickly, like it left a bitter taste in her mouth. "Link."

I pulled my trident closer. "Oh..." I had not seen Link for a number of years now. I had last seen him when his was young, he was so adorable! But I did not know him now... I felt nervous, and I wasn't quite sure why...

I walked closer to the edge of the waterfall. Sidon seemed like a speck in the water, he was so tiny. "Sidon! Hurry and swim up here!" I called. He looked up at me pitifully. I sighed. I was so used to him grovelling now, it wasn't even cute watching his puppy dog eyes.

"Mipha..." Zelda sounded concerned. "Perhaps he is still too young to swim up this big waterfall."

I looked at her kindly. "One day, princess, I must leave him... to face my fate with Ruto."

Zelda giggled. "You mean Ruta?" I started giggling too. Giggles turned into laughs, until we were rolling on the floor.

After we had finished laughing, Zelda rose an eyebrow. "Oh, alright, I'll swim up here with him." I said, then slid down the waterfall.

I looked back at Sidon. "Join me." I smiled at him. He swam up to me, looking worried. "We'll go together so you can get a feel for it."

Once he was on my back, I looked back at him, checking to see if he was safe. "Let's go."

I sped up the waterfall, listening to the splashes echoing as I swam up it. Sidon was sitting happily on my back, and for the first time ever... I felt like I had time to myself. Like this wasn't for Sidon... but for me.

At the top of the waterfall, I gripped Sidon's hand and launched upwards, feeling the droplets leave my body. I landed gracefully on the floor, and let Sidon down onto the ground. He seemed very happy.

I bent down to him, hearing the princess's footsteps behind us. "Sweet Sidon... should fate ever part us..."

I looked at him, his beautiful big eyes were drinking in every word I was saying. I felt like crying. He really is the sweetest child you'd ever meet, and I wish him all the best as he grows up... if I ever have to leave this world and not see him grow.

"I'm counting on you to protect out beloved home from harm." I smiled at him sadly, hearing Zelda trying to hide sniffles. "Understood?"

He gave a sharp nod. "I believe in you." I whispered.

I glanced at Zelda, then turned back to Sidon. "Now, shall we try one more time?" I held up one finger.

Then Sidon did the smile thing... I'm not quite sure how to explain it. He does this adorable little grins and pulls his bent arm down... it's a Sidon thing, I guess. It makes me love and trust him even more.

We both giggled... and the princess too. Then we laughed. And as the sun set... I felt like I had been freed.

Is this a wish come true?

No. It isn't.

Because I had conveniently forgotten someone... Someone who would get in the way of my duties.

The Hylian with the sword which seals the darkness.

Link.
