I sprint into Lurelin Village, Torfeau and Sidon yelling behind me, but I can't hear their words through the rushing sound in my ears.
Breathless, I croak "Bird. Where. Is. He." to a thoroughly confused villager.
He cocks his head sideways for a second, then points to a far-off ledge, barely visible in the light of the setting sun.
I race myself to the ledge, leaving the villager behind, barely whispering a thank you, wind whipping at my face, struggling to breathe, but I don't care, this is for someone else, not me. This is for my soulmate. This is for Torfeau, for Sidon, for me. This is for me. My head spins in circles, legs whirring, head pounding.
I see him... outlined in the golden light of the sun... he glances back at me, disappointment etched into his face... tears in his eyes...
and he falls into the water like a shooting star...
Without a moment's hesitation, I dive in after him.
