Serenas POV
I could hear my heart pounding in my chest as I watched Sophia's house disappear in my rearview. I didn't want to upset her but she wasn't safe with me.
My foot pressed harder on the gas as I raced down the empty streets. Jax was still behind me and so were some of the other guys now.
Thinking of the events that took place tonight left my emotions all over the place. On one hand, I couldn't stop thinking of a certain blue-eyed teacher, which made my heart flutter. But on the other, I was pissed about the cops showing up. I don't know what game they're playing but whatever it is, it can't be good. It was just a couple weeks ago that agent Ryan and Mitchell were knocking down my door in the middle of the night asking for my help. So was that all bullshit? and Jess that girl they had with them, was she just making that all up? I didn't want to believe that but you never know these days.
I turned off the main road and onto a long dirt path. We were going to our safe house which was about 30 minutes outside of town. It was in the middle of nowhere and smelled like cigarettes but it was necessary.
When we pulled up, I parked in front of the dimly lit porch and turned my car off. I watched as Jax walked over to me and as soon as I stepped out of my vehicle he was pulling me into a tight embrace. "I love you Serena," he said softly.
"I love you too Jax, now let's go inside we have a lot of work to do"
He just laughed and we walked up the porch steps into the house. There were already a decent amount of people there. Most were talking quietly amongst themselves, some looked pretty shaken up. Just then I heard a familiar voice and turned around to be met with my best friend. Carmen ran into my arms and I smiled at her touch as I wrapped my hands around the girl.
"Thank god I was so worried," the tan girl said. Her eyes glossed over as tears threatened to spill over.
"Don't worry baby I'm not that easy to get rid of" my tone light trying to get a smile out of her which I succeeded in doing.
Clay walked in then and everyone refocused their attention to him. Clay was the Sons president and Gemma was following right behind him. "Alright everyone listen up" he spoke in an assertive tone.
I was leaning against the window while Carmen sat in a chair next to me. Gemma came over to me and pulled me into her side placing her hand on my face as I put my neck on her shoulder. She smelled like whiskey and smoke at all times but I somehow found it comforting. Her breathing was slow and managed to calm me down as I listened to the sound of her heart beating. Clays voice pulled me out of my trance.
"We don't know exactly why this shit went down but when I found out there's gonna be hell to pay. The cops booked 4 of us, everyone else made it out in time. The lawyers are working on gettin them out but until then there's not much to do. Jax, Bobby, and Frankie are heading out tomorrow morning to see what we can find out. Until then no one comes and no one goes. Serena and Carmen, I know you have school tomorrow but we can't take any chances until we know what we're dealing with."
"Fine by me," I said causing everyone to laugh. Gemma chuckled and kissed the side of my head.
"So if everyone's on the same page lets rest up, it's late and we all have a big day tomorrow." Clay headed towards his bedroom and so did a lot of the other guys. Gemma pulled Carmen and me in for a hug, "I love you girls, get some sleep" she said before heading to bed as well.
Carmen was rubbing her eyes and I knew she was exhausted. "Go to bed Carmen I'll be up in a minute" she nodded standing and heading for the room we would be sleeping in. I went over to where Jax and Frankie were sitting. Jax had a cigarette hanging from his mouth and both the guys looked stressed. "Hey S" Frankie said as he noticed my presence. I sat down at the wooden table across from him while nodding and turning my attention to Jax.
"What's going on Jax and don't hit me with that you don't know bull"
Jax looked up at me and his normally bright eyes looked dull and tired. He knew he couldn't lie to me, we never lied to each other, there was no use we always knew when one of us wasn't being honest.
He looked around the room before turning his attention back to me. He seemed conflicted with whether he should tell me or not.
"We think there's a rat in the club," he said in a hushed tone so no one could hear. My eyes went wide. I could hear my heartbeat increasing and the color had completely disappeared from my face. I swallowed hard and thought back to those cops sitting in my kitchen telling me exactly what Jax just had. Was this my fault? If I had said something to him when this happened could this have been prevented? I know Ryan told me not to tell anyone until I knew for sure but I was beginning to rethink that. After all, we were raised to not trust cops and just because I knew Ryan and thought Jess was hot, doesn't make them any different.
I looked deep into Jax's eyes before taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly. "There's something I need to tell you," I said just above a whisper. He furrowed his eyebrow and scanned my face trying to get a read of where this was going. I motioned to the back door so there was no chance anyone could overhear us. Jax, Frankie, and I headed into the dark and sat at an old bench on the deck. My hands were sweaty and I bit my lip at the thought of what this conversation would bring.
"What's going on S?" Jax asked in a concerned tone. Frankie was just staring at me expectantly.
"I'm just gonna say it. A couple of weeks ago after Carmen and I came home from a club, Ryan and Mitchell showed up at our house." Jax's eyes widened a little and I could tell he was becoming restless.
"Basically they said they thought someone in the Sons was informing and that they wanted me to figure out who it was before things got out of hand. They told me not to say anything to anyone because it could make things worse."
My heart became heavy at the confession I just made and I couldn't believe I had picked cops over my family. I shook my head, "I'm so sorry Jax I didn't know what to do but I should've told you before this." I hung my head and stared at the ground feeling like absolute shit.
"Serena It's okay I understand why you did what you did, we've had suspicions for a while now it's not your fault that this happened so don't even think that"
I felt a weight being lifted as I comprehended what Jax was saying. They already knew. It didn't matter that I didn't tell them.
I placed a hand over my chest and exhaled a breath I hadn't realized I was holding.
"Thank god," I said while laughing lightly. Jax and Frankie smiled and pulled me into a group hug. "Get some sleep little sis, you look like shit" they guys just laughed.
I rolled my eyes playfully, "I never look like shit, I'm a Maldonado" I said back in a cocky tone, only joking of course.
I headed into the house and up the creaky stairs to the room where Carmen and I were sleeping. I opened the door slowly trying my best to not wake my sleeping friend. She looked so peaceful curled up on one side of the queen bed. Her face was only half visible since the other half was shoved in a pillow. I smiled thinking of the love I had for this girl.
I threw on a big T-shirt and crawled into the bed immediately feeling exhausted. My eyes refused to stay open any longer and the soft sound of Carmen's breathing would have me sleeping in no time.
I couldn't help but let my mind wander to Sophia. Her soft skin and the way she said my name when I was pleasuring her. How angry she had been when I brought her home and how sad she looked as I drove away.
The more I thought about it the more I realized I wanted her to be safe. I have no idea what I feel for her but I feel something and that's enough for me to know I had to protect her. Maybe the best thing for her is to have nothing to do with me. She didn't need the drama that came along with me and I couldn't risk her getting hurt.
I admit I'm starting to get attached to her but I've known her for less than 2 months, If I stopped talking to her now I could get over the feelings. I hope.
