Serenas POV

The past weeks have been strange for me. Nothing feels familiar anymore.

I mean, I'm doing all the same things, hanging with all the same people, everything just seems different. There was a part of me that felt a little lonely and it reminded me of when my dad died.

Things with Sophia were really starting to bother me but I couldn't help thinking that maybe this was for the best. It hurt pretending like we were just teacher and student, like she was just some lady who taught me history.

As I made my way back home I noticed a familiar car parked outside my house.

Everyone had left the safehouse and returned to their homes a couple of weeks ago. Jax had made almost a full recovery and the Sons managed to find out who the snitch was.

I made my way to the front door seeing a blonde woman sitting on my front steps, it was Jess, the cop.

"Hey there stranger," I said gaining her attention.

She stood so we were eye level, her light blonde hair blowing in the wind.

"Serena, hey, I just wanted to stop by and say thank you, I know that was a tough situation but you handled it really well and everything worked out in the end." I couldn't help but smile at the beauty.

"Well, you know me, I'm basically Mother Theresa," she laughed bringing her hands to her face and I noticed a ring on her finger.

"I didn't know you were married" she looked down at the ring and then back up at me.

"Oh I'm not, it's just part of my cover right now" I nodded bringing myself a little closer to her.

"So is that the only reason you came by?" my tone was suggestive and she brought her bottom lip between her teeth.

"Okay so maybe I wanted to see you too" a slight blush formed on her cheeks as she tried looking down at her feet but not before I placed two fingers under her chin, bringing her gaze back to mine.

"Never hide that beautiful face"

The distance between us was diminishing and her eyes were looking at my lips and then back to my gaze as if silently asking for permission. I didn't say anything I just closed the gap between us as I felt her soft lips on mine.

The kiss was sweet and delicate. She tasted like strawberry chapstick and I rested my forehead against hers as we pulled apart. She was honestly a great kisser, but she wasn't Sophia, and as much as I didn't want to admit it, I missed her.

"So who is she?" Jess asked and my face contorted into confusion.

"The girl you just thought about after we kissed" there was a smile playing on her face as I stood there in complete disbelief. How in the hell did she know that? I tried to answer but I couldn't seem to get my brain to form a coherent sentence.

"It's okay Serena don't hurt yourself" she was laughing now and I joined in realizing the humor in this situation.

"It's complicated" was all I managed to get out.

"Ahh, I see. The good ones always are" She reached her hand out and touched my cheek gently.

"If you ever need anything just know I'm only a phone call away" I smiled at her kind words and kissed her forehead.

"Thanks Jess, same goes for you" she turned walking off my front steps.

"Oh and Serena, sometimes complicated just means there's something worth fighting for" she winked at me before getting in her car and driving off.
