Do you ever wake before dawn when everything is quiet and still? I seem to do this quite regularly at the moment! Sometimes, it makes me think about that time when there was nothing, just before God spoke and brought everything into existence.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day."
Genesis 1:1-5 NIV
There's always something special about the first light of the new day, perhaps it echos the love of the Creator as He spoke on the first day with such authority, 'Let there be light' and just like that, it appeared! Just like an artist, admiring their work, 'God saw that it was good' and then continued on creating!
It doesn't matter who you are or where you live in this world, you will have been touched by the thrill of watching the sunrise. I imagine that millions of photos have been taken over the years, capturing the quiet beauty of the rising sun. Each new morning is a snapshot of a most precious gift we have all been given and that's TODAY!
This is a new day, given from above by our loving God who only wants us to have the best! His love is written in the stars and in every other part of creation, and we can know that this is not a fleeting kind of love that will fade over time, it's EVERLASTING!
"The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness."
Jeremiah 31:3 NIV
Take time today, to look up and feel loved, as you enjoy the majestic beauty and the glory of God, just as the psalmist did!
"The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth."
Psalms 19:1-6 NIV
Let's pray:
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the gift of this new day and the beauty of the sunrise. I am in awe of the love You continue to show me day after day! In the colours that paint the sky, I see the depth of Your creativity and the warmth of Your love, bringing hope to my heart.
Thank You that even in the dark times our world is experiencing right now, the light of Your love still shines out for all to receive! I am encouraged because, just like the sun, Your light:
"..... shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:5 NIV
Thank You for revealing Your love so clearly in the gift of today through the beautiful sunrise. May I be mindful of Your Presence, no matter what is happening, as I make the most of every moment of this new day. Help me to see Your beauty and simply know how much I am loved.
Amen.
