Our generation has not ever experienced so many changes to the way we live as we have in this past decade. There has never been a time like this in living memory and it can be quite overwhelming to navigate. As Christians, we need to look to God and be able to put our trust in Him like never before! We definitely need to hang onto His Word, which never changes!
Israel was about to experience some pretty significant changes, as they would soon step into the land God had promised them. Moses had faithfully led them out of slavery in Egypt, through the wilderness. Knowing he was about to die, they gathered around to hear his last words which end with a song of praise that would continue to point the people to God:
"Listen, you heavens,
and I will speak;
hear, you earth,
the words of my mouth.
Let my teaching fall like rain
and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants.
I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
Oh, praise the greatness of our God!
He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
upright and just is he."
Deuteronomy 32:1-4 NIV
Moses went on to mention in detail how God had been with them and brought them through so much in the past. This was on the back of a lengthy reminder of the law. Moses cared deeply about the future of God's chosen people and wanted what was best for them. He faithfully served God to the end by stressing the importance of obeying the commandments:
"he said to them, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.""
Deuteronomy 32:46-47 NIV
How important is God's Word to you? Do you take it to heart? Are you careful to obey it? Is it your life? Let God's teaching fall like rain or dew on you today! Soak it up and continue to get to know Him as the great and perfect God who does no wrong! He is just, faithful and upright. He will be your Rock through all the changes ahead!
Let's pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your awesome Word that speaks to me so clearly all of these centuries after Moses spoke his last words. I praise You for Your faithfulness throughout all of history. You never change and You consistently show us Your love by being just, upright and perfect in every way. You are my Rock and I run to You!
"From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings."
Psalms 61:2-4 NIV
Amen.
