Have you felt completely overwhelmed? Sometimes one piece of bad news seems to follow another!
It's wonderful to remember that God has been there carrying us through the difficult times, just as He was there for His people as Moses led them toward the Promised Land. We have lived through a time in history where we literally had a list of rules and regulations which we needed to adhere to in order to obey the law and of course keep safe.
It was similar for God's people the Israelites as Moses received and brought the Ten Commandments to them. I love the way God speaks to Moses and gives him the words to pass on, reminding them all, that indeed He had cared for them and knew what was best for them.
"'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.""
Exodus 19:4-6 NIV
The phrase 'carried on eagles' wings' is so comforting and is a picture of God's love for each of us. Notice how Moses must talk to the Israelites about obedience and how important this will be. It was a matter of trusting God and obeying!
This same thing is true for all of us now, no matter how we want to be independent and do our own thing, in the end we will see that God's way is best. He lovingly made us and always has our ultimate good at heart. We see this clearly in the beautiful blessing that God gives to Moses to be passed onto his brother Aaron in order to bless the people:
"" ' "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace." '"
Numbers 6:24-26 NIV
This surely shows the heart of our loving God —He wants so much for us! This is a a blessing that is still relevant and available now because God does not change! Why not declare it over your family today?
Let's pray:
Dear Lord,
Thank You that You do know what is best for us, just as you gave the Israelites so many commandments and laws to follow. Thank You for carrying me on eagles' wings each and every day. Please continue to be with me. Help me to trust You and live in obedience. May Your blessing be on my family and I in this day ahead. I so need Your wonderful peace!
Amen.
