80. Through It All My Eyes Are On You

As we have journeyed through the Old Testament so far, we have seen our Lord at work in the lives of His people, in so many ways. Time and time again, we have seen evidence of His great unfailing love. As we continue to read the Old Testament, the story of Job comes along with great purpose, as we see how Job endured such an incredible amount of sorrow and pain!

We don't always know why the innocent suffer and yet people often ask this question of the Lord. The important thing to remember is that God is God and we are not. His wisdom is far greater than we can imagine and of course, much of the suffering that we see around us is a result of the evil in the world since the Fall in the garden of Eden.

The beautiful thing is that this man Job does not curse God but patiently weathers one tragedy after another. It's painful to read at times but all ends on a very positive note! After losing everything —including family and possessions, Job is greatly blessed by the Lord.

"The Lord blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. And he also had seven sons and three daughters. The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers. After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. And so Job died, an old man and full of years."

So we live each day and keep trusting God. We hold onto His promises and go to Him in prayer. We may not know why things happen as they do, but we are certain of the One we run to through it all.

"Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint."

Let's pray:

Heavenly Father,

I worship You as my God and King. You have all authority and wisdom and power! Thank You for Your Word that speaks to me and helps me to know You better. Thank You for the light and shade I see as I journey through Your Word and that I can see Your righteousness and how much You love me. Thank You for all that I can understand as Your Holy Spirit enables me.

However Lord there are many things I don't understand and it is so hard to fathom why the innocent suffer. Please help me with my response to the millions who are suffering right now. Let me see things through Your eyes and help me to love and comfort the sick and grieving.

Lord I am so blessed to be able to see the big picture of Your love for all mankind through sending Your Son to die for our sins. This is something so amazing that it's hard to comprehend too! You blessed Job with so much after his terrible years of loss and I am reassured that no matter what trials we endure here, You have countless blessings in store for us in the future!

I put my hope in You and ask for Your continued blessing on my community, my family and I. Through it all, my eyes are on You!
