Have you noticed how easy it is to get derailed and suddenly feel that you have no direction? We can get disappointed when we lose our job or through illness are no longer able to work or serve in church. The one thing we need to remember, is that our identity is not found in doing. We don't need to be employed and climbing the corporate ladder to have value in God's eyes. Participating in the life of a local church is great and it's God's desire that we serve as part of the body but He sometimes leads us to places where we need to find a new way to honour Him, love others and spread the Word to the world. The important thing is to remember who we are serving.
We need to be sure of our true identity, which is only found in Christ. We are children of the Most High God! We have been bought at a high price! It's all about our heart and where we stand with Him that really matters.
In Joshua's last days, he spoke boldly to the Israelites giving them a choice:
""Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Then the people answered, "Far be it from us to forsake the Lord to serve other gods! It was the Lord our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled. And the Lord drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites, who lived in the land. We too will serve the Lord, because he is our God.""
Joshua 24:14-18 NIV
Who will you serve? Serving starts at heart level and you don't need to be on every committee and roster at church to be serving God. How are you putting Him first? Can you say, 'As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord'?
Let's pray:
Heavenly Father,
I humbly come before You in gratitude for calling me to be Your child. Thank You for Your Word and for the ways You reveal Yourself to me and continue to teach me. I am so blessed to know Your love and forgiveness in Jesus and to be aware of my true identity in Him.
Thank you Lord for the ways I have been able to serve in the past within Your body and the ways I can serve You today. My heart is turned toward You and I earnestly seek to serve You in whatever way You lead me. As for me and my household, we will serve You Lord!
Amen.
