WHEN KATE HAD finally knocked on the door of the cabin, her heart rate spiked before it cracked open. She was surprised to find her father had opened it, not El. "You're late."
"Where is she?" Kate asked, slipping through the door.
"You mind telling me where you've been?"
"At a party."
He sighed. "I thought we agreed that you were supposed to come home—"
Kate scoffed. "No, we didn't agree to anything. I told you I had plans to go to a party, and I followed through on them."
"Yeah? Whose jacket is that?" her father asked.
Kate gave him a confused look before she looked down, remembering that she was still wearing the suit jacket from Steve's costume. She hoped he wasn't currently freezing to death as he walked back to his car (he was, in fact, freezing, but he didn't care in the slightest). She fidgeted with the hair tie on her wrist as she avoided eye contact with him. "I, um... It's Steve's."
"What?" Hopper thought the two of them never even looked at each other, never mind went somewhere alone together. "Is that why you went to that party? Just to hang out with him all night?"
"No!" Kate said, shaking her head. "No, I went with Jonathan. And the girls. Steve just took me home because—"
"He did what?"
