KATE COULD ONLY watch in horror as one of the creatures stared her, Dr. Owens, and her father down (as well as it could without any eyes, anyway). While a thick piece of glass separated them, the barrier did nothing for her nerves.
"Mother of God."
It pressed its slimy hands up against the glass window, suddenly trying to break through it.
Kate jumped back as it began to push against the barrier, her heart rate rapidly increasing. "It can't get through, can it?"
"It's... It's polycarbonate," Dr. Owens explained. "It can't."
As the creature roared, more of them came from the pit that located the tunnels below, which presumably held even more of the beasts. "Mother Mary and Joseph," the man sitting in front of the monitor said softly. After the first crack in the polycarbonate sheet appeared, more cracks and fractures appeared the more and more the creatures began to push against it, Hopper, Kate, and the doctors in the room only stared in horror.
"You sure about that glass?" Hopper asked.
While Dr. Owens didn't respond in words, he pressed a button which immediately led to flashing lights and beeping throughout the buildings—there was officially an emergency at Hawkins Laboratory. Before the creature could break through the glass, everyone quickly shuffled out of the room, Kate and Hopper being the last two out and shutting the vault-style door behind them. Dr. Owens ran with them both up the stairs, the three of them missing the opportunity to be slaughtered by the creatures in the elevator.
