WHENEVER ELEVEN APPROACHED the cabin, she knew she was in deep shit.

Hopper had been waiting for her to come home for what had seemed like hours.

Kate had panicked whenever she'd gotten home from work when she hadn't found El. Her father had been home already, telling her that a woman and her child had seemingly spotted her out closer to town. He'd been waiting on her to get home ever since then.

Now, Kate only sat in her room at her desk, adding the last finishing touches to a story she'd been working on as she waited for the moment Eleven got home. She knew she would know it immediately. Even if she had been anticipating it, she still jumped when the door slammed so hard it shook the whole entire cabin.

"'Friends don't lie.' Isn't that your bullshit saying? Hey, hey! Hey! Don't walk away from me!" he shouted before El could slam her bedroom door in his face. Kate immediately threw her pencil down on the desk and ran back behind her father, who stood in the doorway of Eleven's room. He continued, even noticing his daughter's presence. "Where'd you go on your little field trip, huh?" El only took off her coat, ignoring him. "Where?"

Kate sighed. "Did you go see Mike?"

El was on the verge of tears. "He didn't see me."

"Yeah, well, that mother and her daughter did, and they called the cops." The man moved to stand in front of her, Kate still in the doorframe. "Now, did anyone else see you? Anyone at all?"
