KATE NEVER THOUGHT she'd let a thirteen-year-old kid with little to no experience with driving a car drive under any circumstances.

That was one of the only thoughts going through her head as she sat in the backseat of Billy Hargrove's Camaro, holding an icepack to Steve's face as Max drove.

Steve still hadn't woken up since he'd been knocked out from the fight. Before they left, she and Max had wiped the blood off his face, trying to fix it enough so that he didn't look absolutely horrible. Max even found some bandaids to put over the marks on his face. She had told the kids to let her at least do him that solid before they left. They had almost left without her, but Kate reminded them that she could just follow them in her car, which would actually be worse with just her and Steve going with them, so they waited. Kate refused to leave him alone in the Byers' house, especially if Billy was going to be passed out right next to him. She wouldn't do it.

Kate knew Max driving, at least at that point, was a much better option than driving them around herself. She could barely keep herself standing to begin with, and after what happened with Billy, she had more trouble moving, more trouble keeping her eyes open. She felt like she was on the brink of passing out again, and she knew a thirteen-year-old driving was much better than her falling unconscious at the wheel and running them into a tree or something.

Now, though, as Max drove and Lucas gave directions from the front seat, Dustin, Mike, and Kate squished into the backseat, and Steve still passed out and laying on top of Dustin and Kate, his legs on top of Mike's.
