Shining brightly out of the window the sun was hitting my back but all I cared about was the steaming cup of goodness before my eyes. In all my years of life I have never wanted a cup of tea more.
"Finally, some ginger tea" I sighed. I been craving this all day after my sweet husband Jacob left me to do all the meetings by myself. He said it was payback for me weaseling out of the first trade discussions. After all these decades of being married to that man. He still had that annoying smirk I saw at seventeen years of age.
I reminded him I was watching the grandchildren when he just laughed in my face. "My poor wife." And then he walked off with our son and daughter to have a day of fun without me.
"Traitors" I grumbled in my tea. Sitting in my chair I looked out of the window at the capital of Perta Helena. People were wandering around the street and looking quaint in their lives. Guards were posted but no real trouble ever happens.
It still amazed me that forty years ago this kingdom was in turmoil. Yesterday was the anniversary of Weston's destruction and The War of the seven kingdom occurred. I still can see the destruction and heartbreak of that time in my life.
Telling the grandchildren my story was hard but needed to be done. They had to know how lucky they have been because of the sacrifices of people who died. And speaking of grandchildren two are coming my way.
Roland my grandson and Rachel's granddaughter Annie came stumbling up with big excited grins. "Grandma we just had our nap." Screamed Roland jumping on my lap spilling my tea on my green dress. Pouting I really wanted that drink I thought.
"Now you can finish the story" Annie insisted tugging my arm impatiently. Getting up I had Roland on my hip as I moved into the children's playroom.
Inside I saw three other little nobles waiting for me near my reading chair. It was a setup I moaned but walked in as Annie skipped by me. Putting Roland down I let the best friends join the others. Sitting down I got comfortable before looking at the children. "Where did we end the story."
"It stops when my grandma Rachel escaped Weston" Annie answered smiling at me. I accepted that answer reflecting on my story as the memories flooded in my mind. The day my home was destroyed and the fear for my friends all came back to me. My mother and sister participating in the mayhem was a deep wound that still stung today.
"Okay my dears my story will start from there." I said as the children lean in ready to hear the story of my life.
