For the next sixteen days Louis and his generals planned tactics and formation for the upcoming attacks. On the tenth day a message was deliver from Laura that her uncle has agreed to aid the city. However the tribe would be delay bringing down everyone's hopes. Hearing the news, we had no choice but to push on. Women and men were called to fight for the city. Many citizens carrying crude swords and handmade pikes to protect their home.
On the sixteenth day the Delianians and Bulkans soldiers surrounded the wall of Evergreen by the hundreds. Seeing the number I realized this would be a long battle. Louis and the other generals sat on the eastern wall watching the enemy send out a messenger.
Louis ordered their troops to let the man in the wall to deliver the message. The man was scrawny and small barely Laura's height marching up to Louis in a confident air. Lifting his nose. "My leader Alek of Bulka request the cowardly King Louis of Perta submit to him. Die honorable for the crimes you committed against my lord and maybe we will spare this city." The man's disrespectable manner spoke volumes of how these discussions would go.
"It is your lord that committed the crime not I" Louis hissed his voice rising with rage.
"Lies and soon my lord will rule this kingdom and take back the Native wench that you stole" the man answered spitting at Louis feet.
Lord Thomas moved swiftly for a man of his years. Placing a knife at the man throat. "Don't speak that way about the future queen and show respect to the king."
The messenger paled and nodded slowly as the lord removed his knife. Louis stared at the man as he declared." Tell your master I will never surrender my kingdom or bride to him."
The man quickly bowed and ran off as the Evergreen troops let him out of the gates again. Blowing the whistle was the signal for all civilians to get off the walls. Families said their tearful goodbyes and we were at the point of ours. Mark hugged Sarah as he volunteered to fight in the battle with the other royals. Hearing the news Sarah broke down but didn't argue.
"Sarah you need to go now," Mark said sadly.
Complying Sarah released Mark. "Be careful." She was about to be escorted off the wall when Rachel came to her with Jordan.
"Sarah take Jordan with you please. "
"Rachel you aren't staying are you "Sarah replied worried as she held Jordan's hand.
"Yes, I can finally use my magic to defend people." Rachel in an unyielding voice that told everyone that her mind was made up. I understood Rachel's reasons of staying because I made the same choice days ago."
"Good luck Rachel" said Sarah as a guard rushed her off the wall with Jordan beside her. Waving at them Rachel wiped away some tears in her eyes. Going to where the other witches volunteers where Mark stopped her on the way there.
"Don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. And if an attacker come your way leave quickly." Stress Mark looking at Rachel like an older brother would to his younger sister.
Rachel pulled away and smiled kindly at Mark." Mark your concern is sweet, but I can fight a man on equal ground. And besides my magic will prevent the invaders from entering the wall."
"I don't doubt your magic Rachel, but Malcolm will kill me if anything happens to you." Warned Mark glancing at the red-haired prince who was talking to the generals only yards away.
"That's why he does not know about this "Rachel whispered to Mark. Shaking my head Rachel was a sneaky one as I observed my friend getting in position. Hearing the last whistle I went to my spot on the wall with the other archers. It still surprise me that I volunteered three days ago to become one of the archers. I originally was going to be with the civilians in the hidden caves but Lord Thomas ask for anyone with skills with a weapon.
