During the night the lights from the guard posts were blazing. The great wall of Evergreen could be seen to the weary riders as we approach the city. Louis signal for us to stop as he walked his horse up to the post calling for a guard. The man instantly alerted calling to the king in a commanding voice.
"What is your business here stranger?"
Louis spoke formally to the guard "I am King Louis of Perta and I ask you to let me enter this city." To confirm his identity, he raised his right hand in the light. A gold ruby ring with a lion and dragon design on it. It was the symbol and royal crest of the King of Petra. The man instantaneously paled ordering the gates to be opened. With that everything went quickly with us meeting the Captain of the guard. The Captain promised to inform the Lord of the city of our arrival. After that we were led to a local inn to sleep for the night leaving us with two elderly innkeepers.
"We're the Shelby's and welcome to the Traveling Dove Inn " greeted the female innkeeper with a nice smile escorting us to the inn. The establishment was located in the market district surrounded by pubs and stores. It was a charming two-story house with red brick. The building was encumbered in white roses all around the outside.
"Its a pleasure to be here and I hope we didn't wake you. "Apologized Louis as the innkeepers ordered servants to take our horses to the small barn next to the inn.
"No, you're nobles and it's no trouble" insisted Mr. Shelby unlatching the gate letting us inside. As we all enter the older man frowned looking at our group worried." I am afraid we don't have enough rooms for your group. But the Harbor Inn is not so far from here and Murphy should have extra rooms."
"How many rooms do you have "Mark inquired looking at the nervous innkeepers.
"Only four Prince Mark" said Mrs. Shelby bowing to the prince.
"Okay if you can direct us Sarah, myself and the boys can stay at the other inn "Mark volunteering to leave. The boys agreed, and Mrs. Shelby waited for horses to be retrieve before escorting them down the street.
"You all must be tired let me show you to the rooms." Mr. Shelby offered kindly leading them to an old staircase with the wood creaking under our weight. On the second level was six doors and Mr. Shelby opened the first one on the right.
In the room was a large comfortable bed with a decent sized quilt. The small room had paintings on the wall of the sea and a dresser for clothes. It had a pleasant quality about the place that felt homely and Louis stepped forward." This room will be fine for Laura and myself." If she was surprise Laura didn't let it show entering the room. I guess modesty was gone now since most of us had to share a sleeping space for days now.
"Here is the key and have a goodnight my king, "Mr. Shelby said giving Louis the key as the king closed the door to the room. "We have another room just across from this one that can fit two people." Mr. Shelby opening the next door. This room contains two small beds with a night stand between them with blue paint on the wall. The room reminded me of a child's bedroom and Jordan didn't hesitate running to the closest bed and jumping on it.
"Its seems he claimed this room for himself" the old innkeeper laughing at the boy's excitement.
"Yes, I think this is the perfect room for us "declared Rachel as the key was given to her. She was just about to shut the door when loud footsteps came up the staircase. James came towards them with an annoyed expression. "James what are you doing here. I thought you were going to the other inn." .
"I was but the inn only had two room" explained James. "I was hoping maybe I can share with you and Jordan." Looking at Rachel with a pleading stare. Sighing Rachel handed James the key.
