After the first watch was finish I only had a few hours of sleep before waking. It was half caused by us putting Rachel and Prince Malcolm together on the second watch. Originally it was only going to be Rachel but Malcolm decided to join her. Those two loudly argued and ranted the entire watch waking everyone up except Jordan.
After that Mark volunteered to takeover but King Louis decided we should depart for Evergreen. Little before sunrise we set out on a grueling pace. Louis became more rigid determine to cross the Gallows Valley in five days. Those days were rough with the terrain morphing from smooth farmland to the rocky terrain of the mountains. No one at first wanted to complain about the pace. It was obvious Louis was troubled with the enemy invading his land. And I couldn't speak up because my family was somewhat responsible.
On the sixth day after ten hours of riding without rest did someone argue for a break. And the person requesting it was Laura and thank god her fiancé Louis granted it. Going to an encampment of trees in the area the tired group slid off their saddles with groans. Rubbing my aching legs, I scanned our new surroundings and was happy that we stopped here.
The mountain valley was an ideal camping spot with food and water from the streams. The men forge for our supper as we rested. Rachel and Laura were leaning against rocks sleeping since they had the last watch the night before. Sarah and I were gathering wood with David to start a fire for supper.
I was picking branches up when Sarah suddenly swayed on her feet. Fortunately, David was nearby and caught Sarah before she hit the ground.
"Laura help" I yelled at the top of my lungs. Laura and Rachel came running up to us. Rachel looked worried as Laura ordered them to put Sarah on the ground. I stared as Laura begins to examined Sarah hoping nothing is seriously wrong with my friend. Illness was something we could not afford at this time. There were no healers beside Laura who needed to reserve her strength for riding. The route into Evergreen was rough and isolated territory with only a few villages in between. Louis had chosen the route to help cut down traveling time to get to Evergreen. This path went through the woodlands and drylands some of the toughest terrain in the country.
"David go find Mark and bring him back" Rachel ordered as David ran into the woods. Laura lowered her now glowing hands inches away from Sarah's body. Sarah was sweating and pale looking to a point of sickness making me worry that an illness struck her.
Laura scanned Sarah's body starting with her head than to her stomach. Placing the hand on the stomach Laura put more magic on that spot. Smiling Laura removed her hands just as Mark and the others returned.
"What is wrong with her" Mark demanded scooping Sarah in his arms?
"Nothing is seriously wrong with them. They both just require a little rest." answered Laura as Mark looked confused.
"Both".
"Yes, both Sarah and the baby" Laura grinning leaving us all stun.
"Are you positive" Mark asked in shock with Rachel and me? I couldn't believe it that our Sarah was pregnant before marriage. It wasn't unheard of but not the common practice. And for innocent Sarah to be seeking passion outside of marriage was a little jaw dropping.
Shaking her head Laura spoke "When a witch is pregnant with another magic user. The baby's magic is concentrated in the womb."
"Magic, my child has powers" Mark seem joyed at hearing this especially if Laura is correct. For some reason the royals magic users are not as frequent than a commoners .
"Yes, your child has magic and will be a strong witch or wizard." Laura confirmed.
"My child has magic" shouted Mark in excitement waking up Sarah. .
