[Friday 5:53pm] LAILA’S POV
Today felt like the longest day ever. I worked an 8 hour shift and went to 2 classes. I climbed up the stairs and see my oh-so-lovely neighbors. Branden, Chase, and the guy from the door way. They were taking out their trash and from the looks of it, there had to be at least 6 bags full. They eyeballed me as I walked past them, I kept my eyes forward, giving a slight smirk and raising one eyebrow, satisfied by the good night sleep I had gotten the night before. I unlocked my door and I heard them whisper amongst themselves.
Oh well, that was none of my business.
I walked into my clean apartment, embracing the smell of my red velvet cupcake scented candles. I went straight to the shower to wash the stress of my day away. About 20 minutes later I heard a knock at the door as I stepped out of the shower. “Just a second!” I yelled as I ran to my bedroom to throw on some clothes.
[Friday 6:12pm] JORDEN’S POV
I knocked on the door again waiting for an answer. She opened the door wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Her curly hair was dripping all over the place. “Hi?” she said casually but with a hint of curiosity. She obviously wanted to know why I was there. “Hey,” I scratched the back of my head. Great, now she’s gonna think I have lice or something. “I live next door.”
“Oh yeah, I passed you on my way out” she said staring at me. Her eyes were big and brown. I felt like she could literally see through me.
“I- I- just wa- wanted to apologize.” I finally spat out. She burrowed her eyebrows in confusion. Great, lice and a speech impediment, I thought to myself.
“For what?” she asked. “You didn’t do anything.” She fidgeted a little, trying to keep her hair from continuing to soak her shirt.
“I know, I still wanted to apologize on behalf of Chase and Branden. They can be pretty reckless.” I say. She smiles at me sweetly and I feel my stomach drop a little and my heart speeds up.
“Thanks, I really appreciate that, nice to know someone doesn’t think I’m a total bitch… or an arm rest.” We both laughed knowing exactly who she was referring to. “Well, you’re definitely neither of those.” I said with a crooked smile. “I’m not a total bitch but watch yourself. You never know, I might surprise you.” She said, jokingly…I think. I laughed anyway. “We’ll see… Well, I have to go to work soon,” I said even though I didn’t have to be there for another hour or so. Things were going smoothly so I should quit while I’m ahead. “But if you ever need me to apologize for anything else stupid, don’t hesitate to come find me.”
“Sure. In fact, take my number down. That way I don’t have to hulk out next time. I can just shoot you a text or something.” She smiled at me. I laughed at the thought of her turning into the hulk. We exchanged phones and began typing in our numbers. “It was nice talking to you…” she trailed off waiting for me to give my name.
“Jorden” I filled in, extending my hand.
“Laila.” she shook it surprisingly firm but her hand was still small and soft compared to mine.
“Well, have a nice evening, Laila” I said shoving my hands into my pockets.
She chuckled softly and replied, “You too, Jorden.” As soon as I’m a few steps away I hear her door shut. Then, I remember to breathe.

Romance"I'm sure you've sung that for hundreds of girls." she said, acting uninterested. "Nah, I don't sing songs for women." I say shrugging. "So why'd you just sing for me?" "Because, for some reason, the feeling I got singing songs for other girls does...
