[TUESDAY 8:56am]
LAILA'S POV
I work as an event coordinator co-chair at a charity that worked with local kids. We put on a lot of events in the community like daddy/daughter dances, Easter egg hunts, plays, musicals, sporting events, and concerts. I got to my desk and checked my messages.
My supervisor came up to me with another man following behind her.
“Laila, I’d like to introduce you to Darren Bryant. I’d like for you to collaborate on the Roberts’ wedding.”
“I- um, I don’t know if weddings are really my strong suit. I usually work with the kids.” I said trying to get out of it.
I could barely work out my own love life, let alone plan a day celebrating someone else’s.
“Well, that’s what you have Mr. Bryant for, he’s been recommended as a collaborator by the groom. June and Steven both, however, specifically requested you.” My supervisor pleaded.
June and Steven had been volunteering here for years now, they met in this very agency. I didn’t have the heart to turn them down.
“We will give them an unforgettable wedding” I said, finally giving in.
“Great!” She clapped her hands together
“Then I’ll leave you to it. Feel free to use the conference room and I trust that Darren will get you caught up.” And with that, she left.
Darren smiled at me sweetly. He was very slim, but muscular. His skin looked like he was dipped in chocolate which seemed like it could explain why he smelled so sweet. He was wearing a black, neatly pressed Armani suit with a light blue button up underneath and the Cartier watch on his wrist was just shining.
“I’m the best man, Steve’s my brother. He just wanted to make sure he had some type of say in the wedding while he is away. Steve was enlisted in the army and is away on duty. June is working on becoming a nurse and that consumes most of her time. They love each other and want their wedding to display that love perfectly, they just fear that timing won’t allow them to plan the wedding they want.”
“So, here we are.” I cut in, smiling at the romanticism of it all. “Indeed.” He replied.
Full of excitement, I grabbed a binder from my desk drawer and headed for the conference room. We worked for a few hours until lunch time. My stomach growled aggressively.
Darren and I agreed to continue the work another day so that I could go back and work on some other projects.
He leaned against the conference room table and crossed one leg over the other as I looked around for my bag and jacket.
I found them under his suit jacket that he removed earlier. I was just about to politely pass him when he stopped me
“Would it be too forward if I asked you to lunch?” Darren asked, planting a kiss on my hand.
“I actually already have lunch plans but perhaps some other time?” I said. He didn’t really look disappointed, more like excited at the suggestion of some other time.
We exchanged numbers and I left for lunch.

I walked into the restaurant and scanned the room for familiar dark curly hair.
I spotted it in a high vintage, pin-up doll ponytail with a bow. Cali smiled when she saw me. I sat down in the booth and my stomach growled again.

Romance"I'm sure you've sung that for hundreds of girls." she said, acting uninterested. "Nah, I don't sing songs for women." I say shrugging. "So why'd you just sing for me?" "Because, for some reason, the feeling I got singing songs for other girls does...
