Songs: Take Care (Drake cover) by Conor Maynard & Let Me Love You (Ne-Yo cover) by Jacob Artist aka Jake from Glee. Yes, it's a Glee cover but he does a really amazing job with it so listen before you judge :)

LAILA’S POV

I stopped crying after about 10 minutes. I didn’t want to dwell on everything. It always got me nowhere.

I took a long shower and stretched out on the bed. Letting my body sink into the threads of my sheets. I just embraced the feeling for a while.

My phone had been buzzing like crazy since I got out of the shower hours ago. I had gotten a few texts from Cali and an unknown number.

Unknown number: Hey. It’s Darren. where’d u run off to? Your supervisor just asked where u were. I told her we went out to check out some venues.

Shit, I can’t believe I let life get away from me like that.

Me: Wasn’t feeling well. I went home, forgot to go back and clock out. I’ll call them soon. Thanks for covering.

Darren: No problem beautiful J Do you need anything?

Me: No, just rest. Thank you though.

Darren: Okay. Well, feel better.

Me: Thanks

I also had countless texts and calls from Cali. I finally call her back, ready for an earful.

“HE DIDN’T KNOW” was the first thing she yelled into my ear.

“What?” I asked.

“Jorden didn’t know about the bet. Chase explained it wrong, well, in a weird way. Apparently, after they saw Jorden gushing over you, some of Branden’s friends were bragging about how Jorden had “game” for pulling a black girl. Branden bet that he could get you before Jorden. But the bet was with his friends, not Jorden. Branden is the asshole. Jorden didn’t know.” She blurted out quickly.

I sat and processed everything.

“I have to go.” I said softly. I got in the car and drove.

I got to Vibe and went on a search for Jorden by the bar but it was so packed in there that it took 20 minutes to get from one side to the other.  Then I saw him making his way across the stage. But his stage presence was different this time. He seemed delicate and his green eyes lacked their usual shine. He had a keyboard instead of a guitar and he situated himself on stage as I pushed my way up as close as possible.

He spoke into the microphone. “I usually don’t sing songs for women but this was something that I’ve just been thinking about for a while and I really just need to get it out of my system.”

I know you've been hurt by someone else
I can tell by the way you carry yourself.
And If you let me, here's what I'll do
I'll take care of you
I've loved and I've lost

I've asked about you and they've told me things
but my mind didn't change it
I still feel the same
what's a life with no fun, please don't be so ashamed
I've had mine, you've had yours we both know, we know.

He finally spotted me in the crown and our eyes locked. He continued but you can tell that he was speaking to me through the next set of lyrics from the pleading look in his eyes.
