Song: Hold Me by Janine and The Mixtape

LAILA'S POV

I. Was. Drooling. I think Clark may have noticed a bit. He started clapping for Jorden very obnoxiously to snap me out of it. I clapped as well. “Waitress, uhm, can I get another drink?” I asked, trying not to be obvious as to why I needed it. I fanned myself with a napkin until she brought another Jungle Fever.

I don’t know what it was. But my body was reacting to Jorden in an unexpected way. Cali gave me a sideways glance, telling me to get my feelings in check.

A few drinks and shots later, I was definitely drunk. Not in a sloppy way, but in a “Let me take my butt home before I regret the rest of this night” way. Cali was practically embedded in Jeremy’s lap. Clark had gone to go “collect the tab” from the waitress. I don’t think our tab came to be seven figures, but ironically I couldn’t help but notice that the bill had seven digits written on it…

*sips tea* But that’s none of my business.

“Did you have a nice night?” Clark whispered in my ear.

“Lovely,” I say sarcastically.

“So, what are you doing after this?” he asks

“I’m going to my house.” I replied, trying not to sound too disgusted.

“Is that where the after party is?” He says with a smirk.

“No. That’s where I’m going…alone. To be…alone. In my bed…alone.”

“Oh word, no invite?” Clark says rubbing his chin like it’s supposed to change my mind.

I give him a sideways glance. “I mean it’s not like no one else will be asking you.” He says trying to plead his case.

“And what makes you assume that?” I say putting my hands on my hips with my voice still smooth.

“I mean, can I be honest with you sista?”

“Be honest, brotha?” I say scrunching my eyebrows.

“Because, like, no offense,” he begins. Why do people say “no offense” right before they say some offensive ass shit. “Like, you not really that cute, in real life. Don’t get me wrong, you cute for a big girl. You could probably lose a few pounds and be banging but until then you just below average. I’m just tryna give you an opportunity to be with a nice looking guy so you won’t spend your whole life with ugly dudes and other fatties.”

“Oh okay.” I said nodding to myself.

I threw the nearest drink right in his face and smacked him hard across the face. Cali and Jeremy both looked up at us trying to figure out what happened. Clark was just trying to breathe since most of the drink went up his nose, causing him to choke.

“And for the record, I’m not ‘cute for a big girl’. Bitch, no. I am a flawless woman, regardless of what you like and what you don’t. Now scurry off puppy before I come to my senses and bust you upside the head with a bottle like I originally intended.” I said flipping my hair over my shoulder and picking up my phone.

All three of them looked at me in shock because I just sat there with my legs crossed, looking at my phone like nothing just happened. I looked up at Clark who was still sitting there. I grabbed the bottle off the table and said, “So now you can’t hear me? You can’t be stuck on stupid and hard of hearing. Pick a struggle, baby.”  Clark grabs his keys and heads out the door. “Nice meeting you!” I call out after him.
