I spent nearly an entire day following the map to the best of my ability. Aiko made a red line from the Konoha hospital to a dock. I knew I wasn't that far.
I had to put on the headscarf and glasses to disguise myself better, as I heard some townspeople talking about a witch in the land of fire.
The woods were the safest place for me to sleep to not raise eyebrows or anything. I took out my box, snacks, and half full water canteen out of my bag so I could fold it into a makeshift pillow.
I placed it under a comfy tree and closed eyes. Then I felt something soft land on my hip. I opened my eyes to see what it was and it was my trusty blue bird sidekick, Buddy.
"Hi, Buddy," I say with a smile.
"Hello, Iris," he replied in a high pitched voice.
He replied. A bird... just spoke to me.
Confused, I slapped my cheek to see if I was sleeping. But I was very much awake.
"Why did you do that?!" the bird questioned.
I sat up and the bird flew onto the ground.
"Because I'm actually talking to a bird right now. A lot of crazy things happened while I've been here but...this might be the craziest."
"Oh, right, I forgot." The bird began shaking vigorously, then in a puff of smoke, a woman was sitting across from me instead. She had brown skin, curly hair placed in a bun, light brown eyes, and was wearing a long, black dress with a laced black cloak.
I didn't even know what to say. I didn't know what I just witnessed. I could only stare at this mysterious woman.
"Stop staring at me like I have two heads," she said in a sweet voice.
"I'm sorry, but I just saw you go from a bird to a woman. That's just not something you see everyday, you know?"
"Yeah... maybe I should've gave a little warning or something. But that's not the point right now. Do you know who I am, Iris?"
"I thought you were Buddy this whole time, but maybe you have a different name."
She chuckled softly. "No. My name is Diona. I'm your great grandmother."
I gasped. There's no way. She's young. At least in her twenties. And she says she's my great grandmother? And she's in this universe that's different from the one I was born I ? It doesn't make sense.
"Yes it does make sense!" she exclaimed.
"Did you just read my mind?!"
"Yes. That's my special witch ability. Now just let me explain."
"...Okay. Explain then."
"So, I assume you know the story of the so called evil witches who burned a woman at the stake, and terrorized an entire village. I was the woman at that stake. But they didn't actually kill me, obviously. I used a doll as a dummy, placed a spell on it to make it look like me, scream like me, and perish like any other human. I turned myself into the bird you first saw me as and escaped into the trees. I knew I had to get out of there one way or another, and to make sure they could never find me, I brought myself into a completely different universe. It's never been done before that, I think."
"But why did they try to do that to you in the first place?"
Diona sighs heavily, probably thinking back to that time. "Because I fell in love with a common man. Not a magical man. Apparently it went against our coven rules, but I didn't care. He gave me his child. I couldn't let those so called sisters of mine murder me and my daughter. I just couldn't. So I had to get away. But, they murdered my love. We couldn't run escape together, sadly."
