"Ok Amma, I'd better go, it's getting late. Thank you for telling me everything, it couldn't have been easy. Also," you say falteringly, "I'm sorry for not calling sooner. There's been so much going on, things have turned out differently to what I expected." You feel the pang of regret at not having spoken to your Mother sooner. At the same time, you feel a knot in your stomach at what little Ji Min knows about his own fate.
"Rumi, have you been wearing your locket recently?" your mother asks.
"How did you know? Have you cast a spycam spell somewhere to check up on me?" you ask, wondering if the whole world is spying on you.
Laughing, she says, "No of course not, that's saved for your brother. No, I have a mother's psychic sense you know! I always know when my children are in danger or are going through conflicting emotions," she pauses for a bit (you hold your breath, she can't possibly know about...?), then laughs again. "Actually Principal Bang called me just before you did and told me that you would be involved in very important business at the Academy and how pleased he was that you had joined."
You draw out a long breath in relief. After all these years your mother can still keep you on your toes.
"But in all seriousness Rumi," your mother continues, "if you're asking me about Luciferous and you're saying that Ji Min is a teacher there, it's obvious that something serious is going on, and Principal Bang was probably trying to give me a discreet heads up about what my daughter is about to be involved in. Rumi, wear that locket at all times, even when you sleep. I don't even want to imagine what danger you might find yourself in, but that locket is powerful protection. I have full faith in your own strength and ability, and I know how selfless you can be when it comes to helping others, but Lord Luciferous has power that you haven't ever encountered before. Please, just be careful," your mother pleads.
You have tears in your eyes and mumble a quick goodbye to your mother before you start crying over the phone. It's late now and you settle into bed. More and more pieces of the puzzle are coming together, but the bigger picture is looking bleaker than you thought. This whole situation has become even more complicated, and at the centre of it all, is Ji Min. You close your eyes, feel the locket around your neck, and fall asleep. The hooded figure who's been standing outside your door, walks away quietly, having heard everything that he needed to know.
The next day you wake up with a sense of foreboding, a feeling you know is going to stick around for a while. You decide to use all your free time to gather as much information as you can to better arm yourself against what's to come; to help the Bangtan guys, to support Principal Bang, to fight Luciferous if needed and to protect Ji Min. Your main plan for the day is to speak to Yoongi and Nam Joon. You decide to tell them everything you've learnt so far and formulate a plan to protect Ji Min and the Academy. You fight the urge to go and warn Ji Min immediately. You mustn't do anything before speaking to the rest of the gang.
During your lessons you try not to think about Ji Min as the "rightful heir" to Luciferous' throne, but any thought that involves Ji Min is too distracting.
"Madam Min, when are we going to start revision for our MOCK WEEs?" Hyo Joo asks, a girl who is top of the Fifth Year class. Oh damn, you think, I'd completely forgotten about prepping for the end of term mock exams.
"Hyo Joo, thank you for reminding me," you say, thinking on the spot and without missing a beat, "Everyone, get this down because I will not repeat myself. Your MOCK WEEs for Transmorphosis will be on 'Demon Morphology'. Next Monday, you are going to do five minute presentations summarising the topics I will assign you. You will work in pairs and you will both need to present to the rest of the class. You will allow for Q&A at the end of your presentations. Remember, your presentations must not be overloaded with text which we cannot read and must include relevant diagrams. I will not accept copied text which you simply read off the board. I want you to show your thorough understanding of the topic. And of course, you will be graded on this. Spend the next two minutes finding your partner."
There are groans from most of the students, some of whom are eyeing Hyo Joo with looks that you decide to ignore. The students discuss their pairings while you decide on presentation topics. With a sudden idea, you call out, "Min Ho and Hyo Joo, I want you both to work on the topic of malspirits."
