~Chapter 24~

Darrys P.O.V-

The whole gang was hanging out at the park. Kaiya looked really cute wearing a white shirt and pastel green shorts. She has a green now in her hair and I watched as she struggled to catch the football from Dallys harsh throw. We were all gonna play a football game pretty soon but first everyone was warming up. Sadly Kaiya and I didn't make the same team. Her team was caps which all of them wore the caps backwards. I was hard which everyone on my team wore cowboy hats. I wasn't a huge fan of the idea but. It is what it is.

Caps: Kaiya, Dally, Two-Bit, and Ponyboy

Hats: Darry, Steve, Sodapop, and Johnny

The game had started and I threw the ball. Steve caught it and faked out Ponyboy. Kaiya laughed as she ran after him. Steve tripped over a rock and both Kaiya and Steve fell over. The football rolled out of Steve's hands.

Dally yelled "Hats lost possession. Caps Ball"!

Kaiya helped Steve up and then said "Thanks for the ball."

Steve groaned as he walked off. "Whatever."

Dally threw the ball and Kaiya barely catched it. Kaiya saw Steve running at her so she threw the ball to Two-Bit. Of course, Two-Bit wasn't paying attention and he got hit in the head. Out of luck, the football fell right into his hands. Two-Bit started to run and he didn't even realize he scored a touchdown. Two-Bit just kept on running and didn't look back. Soon he made it to the street.

Kaiya called to him "Two-Bit you ran to far come back"!

Two-Bit took a while to get back so we all just stood there waiting awkwardly. We played a little longer until everyone was worn out. Luckily, Kaiya had packed us a picnic so we all sat down on a patterned blanket.

Kaiya's P.O.V -

I smiled as I handed out the sandwiches to the sweaty boys. "You guys are all sweaty."

Steve complained "That's not fair, Girls don't sweat."

I raised an eyebrow "Debatable."

Dally then said "did you pack beers"?

I shook my head "No. We all drunk as if we were alcoholics. I brought soda instead."

I handed each of the boys a soda. Johnny and Ponyboy were the only one who thanked me. Everyone else started at me as if I were nuts.

Two-Bit glared at me "You didn't bring beer" !

I laughed "Theres some at the house. I think soda would do you good."

Two-Bit angrily opened the soda and drank it "Fine."

I smiled "Thats more like it."

Everyone grudgingly drank the soda. After the meal we all layed on the grass to watch the clouds.

Dally said "I see a cigarette."

Two-Bit looked closely at the sky "Where"?

Dally smirked "It just went into my mouth." He obnoxiously blew the smoke at Two-Bit and Two-Bit looked away. "Rude."

I smiled "Two-Bit relax, just breathe in and out. Be happy."

Two-Bit sighed "You didn't bring beer. I don't think you should be receiving our pre-"

Steve covered his mouth "Two-Bit! You idiot. Darry was gonna do it."

I sat up "Do what" ?

Darry grinned and sat up "Should I do it now boys"?

The rest of the gang day up "Yeah."

I was confused "Do what"?

Darry handed me a box and I opened it. Inside it was a leather jacket. "Its beautiful." I said. " but I already have one. What does this represent"?

Darry grabbed my hands "Kaiya. We want you to join the gang."

I was in shock. I couldn't answer. I removed my hands from Darry and said "Darry I can't join the gang."

Two-Bit gasped "I was kidding about not giving you the present."

I shook my head "No it's not that."

Darry looked at me with desperate eyes "What is it then"?

I looked down "In going back to Australia with my mom."

" What"? Shouted Two-Bit.

Dally looked at me "Why"?

I looked back up at Darry who was teary eyed. "My brother. He thinks it's right to beat my mom. I have to go take care of her."

Darry grabbed my hands "You can come back after that."

I shook my head "No Darry. I'm gonna go to college there. It's my home, not here. I'm sorry."

Darry pulled me into a hug "You can't do this I need you. Everything is so right. Why mess it up"? 

I set my hands on Darrys face "Darry just because everything feels so right with me now doesn't mean it was wrong when I wasn't here before."

Darry looked at me and didn't say anything . There was tears on his cheek and I felt tears rolling down my cheeks too. I kissed him and he kissed me back. I loved him. I really did. But I had to go home.
