ONE WEEK LATER

Kairi was better now, most of the bruises had healed on his body and the cuts on his face had faded a lot. His ribs still hurt a bit but it wasn't too bad anymore. Neither Kairi nor Mattia had been to school in a week. Kairi was physically better but mentally he was still in pain but doing better though, Mattia had been boosting his self-confidence slowly. Telling him how great he looked every day, showering him in affection every chance he got. Mattia had noticed small smiles on Kairi's lips again and it made him happy that his boyfriend was slowly getting better.

After the episode in the bathroom, Kairi felt utterly hopeless. Mattia spent a lot of time convincing Kairi that Ryan's words were false and that Kairi was strong and beautiful and amazing. Now Kairi was feeling better. The idea of going to school was still terrifying to him but he knew that they should probably go back soon. Kairi and Mattia were lying on Mattia's bed, legs intertwined when Mattia spoke up.

M: We have to go back to school ya know.

K: I know.

M: Tomorrow?

K: I guess.

Kairi snuggled deeper into Mattia's side, not wanting to talk about school.

M: Kairi?

K: Yeah?

M: I want to tell everyone.

K: That we're dating?

M: Yeah, I want the whole school to know. Because then I can kiss you in the hallways; I can hold your hand, and Ryan can't say shit. Obviously, I won't say anything until you're ready, but yeah.

If everyone knows, then I can always protect him.

K: I want them to know too.

Kairi surprised himself when he said that but he realized it was true. He was tired of hiding his true identity from everyone. He just wanted to be free.

M: Really?

K: Yeah I think so. What about your parents?

M: I don't know, they're gonna find out anyway. I might as well tell them when they get home.

Both boys were silent for a little bit and so it was decided that they would go to school the next day.

THE NEXT MORNING.

Kairi and Mattia woke up to the sound of the alarm. They were each cautious about what the day might bring but they were determined to be normal and attend school. The two boys got dressed and ate without many words but just before they left the house Mattia scooped Kairi into a hug and kissed his soft lips.

M: Are you sure?

K: No, but I have to try.

Time Skip

Mattia pulled into the school parking lot and parked the car, looking over at Kairi. Kairi was breathing heavily and there was fear in is eyes.

M: Hey, we can do this another day if you want.
