DANSBY

"I'm so excited!" Blakelynn shouts as we waited backstage for Khalid. "It's been so long since I last saw him."

I chuckled at her giddiness as Khalid walked up and embraces her in a hug.

"Don't be jealous Dansby." I repeated this over and over in my mind.

"Can I hear a preview of the songs you're releasing tonight?" Blakelynn asked him.

His eyes widened and he shifted his weight back and forth. "Uhh... no it's got to be a surprise," he said after a moment.

"Khalid!" Someone shouted. "You're on in 5 minutes!"

"I've got to go," he said turning to us. "See y'all later."

We walked over the seats closest to the edge of the stage right as Khalid started his first song. Even though we heard him perform these songs at the concert a couple of months ago, it was still amazing to go again.

I looked over at Blakelynn and smiled. She stood up on her tip tops and kissed me before turning her attention back to the concert.

Khalid went through most of his album when he stopped and grabbed the mic front the stand.

"Alright everyone," he started. "I have a couple of songs that I've never released before that I'm going to sing for you guys tonight. Is that good with y'all?" he asked the crowd.

Everyone screamed and cheered in response. He chucked and made eye contact with Blake. He walked towards us and sat down on the edge of the stage, his feat dangling off.

"The hard part always seems to last forever," He sang. He looked Blakelynn in the eye as he did so.

"Sometimes I forget that we aren't together. Deep down in my heart, I hope you're doing alright, but from time to time I often think of why you aren't mine."

I clenched my jaw as I realized what was happening.

"But I'll keep your number saved 'cause I hope one day you'll get the sense to call me. I'm hoping that you'll say you're missing me the way I'm missing you."

I looked at Blake. Her mouth mouth was open and her eyes were wide. She looked at me and opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out.

I was angry, and I knew that Blakelynn knew that. The song when on and on. The crowd was oblivious to the fact that this song was about Blakelynn. We were the only ones who know the truth.

As the song came to an end, he got up from the edge of the stage. "How was that?" he asked the audience. "I have one more song for you all tonight. I really hope you enjoy it. I wrote it about this amazing person. She's an absolute angel," He said, looking at Blake.

"I've been seeing angels in my living room. That have walked the sun and have slept on the moon. Covered in the fragrance of their own perfume."

I don't think I've ever been so mad in my life. Maybe I was looking to much into it, but it looked like Blakelynn's eyes were shining- the way they do when she's happy.

When he looked back at her again, she gave him a small smile. I scoffed and turned on my heals to leave.

I couldn't watch anymore of this. "Dansby!" Blake shouted behind me. "Wait!"

I turned around to face her. "No, you should stay. This shit is dedicated to you anyways."

"Dansby!" I heard her shout again as I pushed my way through the crowd.

I stepped out into the warm Miami air. I closed my eyes and took a couple of deep breaths. My jaw was still clenched and my fists were balled up.

I always knew he had feelings for her. I just don't know if she has any for him.

I sighed as I opened the door to my Uber.

"Rough night?" The driver asked me as I got into the car.

"Something like that," I sighed.

No other words were exchanged throughout the ride to the hotel.

"This is your stop, man," he said, nudging his head towards the building.

"Thanks," I said, putting a wad of cash into his hand. "Keep the change."

I walked into the hotel and got on the elevator. I pressed the button and the door started to close when I heard someone shouting.

"Wait! Hold the door!" I heard.

I stuck my hand in front of the doors to stop them. A woman walked in. "Thank you," she planted, out of breath.

"You're welcome." I smiled.

"You look like you've had a rough night," she said, looking over me.

I chucked. "That's because I have had a rough night." She looked at me questioningly. "Girlfriend issues," I clarified.

She nodded her head in understanding. "Do you want to talk about it? I'm a pretty good listener," she said. "I'm Avery, by the way."

"Dansby," I said, shaking her hand that she had outstretched. "And yes. I would like to talk about it."

"Okay," she smiled. "I'm in room 615. We can talk in there," she said as I followed her out of the elevator.

We chatted for a while. I checked the time and saw that it was almost 2 in the morning.

"Blakelynn seems like a nice girl," Avery said. "You should go talk to her."

I nodded my head. "I should probably head back to my room now. It's late."

"Here, wait," she said as I opened the door to leave. "Lets exchange numbers- in case you ever need to talk again."

I typed my number into her phone and she typed hers into mine.

"Thanks," I said, opening the door again to leave.

"Anytime."

I made the walk to my room and took a deep breath before walking in.

"Dansby," I heard Blakelynn say. She was crying and mascara ran down her face. "You asshole," she said, banging her fist on my chest. "I thought you left me."

"I was just getting air," I said. "I need to process everything."

"I didn't know he felt that way about me. I swear." She looked at me with pleading eyes. "Please believe me."

"I do, Blake," I said.

"I told him that I didn't feel the same way about him..." she trailed off. "I told him that I loved you."

I pulled her into my arms. Tears were still in her eyes and she buried her face in my shirt.

"I love you too."
