DANSBY

I shoved my hands into my pockets as I walked up the stairs of the porch leading to my parents' front door.

I knocked and held my breath as I waited for an answer. I knew my sister was here, and she hasn't been happy with me recently because of the Blakelynn situation.

"I'll get it," I heard someone faintly call out from inside the house.

The door swung open. "Dansby," she breathed, shock evident on her face.

"Blake?" I asked. "What are you doing here?" I brows furrowed together.

"I was just leaving actually," she said.

"I thought you were staying for dinner," I heard my mom say from behind her.

"I was, but uh- I just have to go," Blakelynn said.

"No, wait," I said. "Please stay."

"I don't think that's such a good idea," she countered.

"Can we talk?" I saw the skeptical look on her face. "Please?" I said, hoping she would agree.

She thought about it for a second before slowly nodding. "Okay."

"Great. Let's go upstairs," I said.

She followed behind me as I went up to my room.

"Your stuff is in here?" I questioned. I noticed my bed was unmade. "Have you been staying here?"

"Sometimes," she said. I was suddenly angry that my family hadn't said anything. They knew I needed to see her and had been searching for her since I found out that she was back.

"I miss you, Blake," I said to her. "Why did you leave?"

"Because, Dansby," she said.

"Because why?" I asked.

"I just.." she trailed off with a sigh and she held her face in her hands. "I was in love with you, and you were in love with someone else. I could not live in the same house as you. I couldn't see your face everyday knowing that you wouldn't feel the same way," she said.

"Was?" I asked, referring to her using past tense.

She nodded.

"Oh," was all I said. My heart shattered. She wasn't in love with me anymore.

"Blake, I didn't know how to say it. I didn't know what to do. I was scared, and I didn't think Taylor deserved any of that. I stayed with her because I couldn't admit to her that I was in love with someone else. I would feel so terrible," I said. "But she found out anyways," I added.

She didn't say anything.

"Can I please just have my best friend back?" I asked her.

She nodded her head and a small smile came to her lips. "Yeah, I would like that," she said.
