Hinata was three blocks away from the apartment when he finally realized he had left behind not only his jacket, but his phone as well. ‘Dammit…’ he thought to himself as he checked to make sure his wallet and keys were still in his pocket. He let out a deep sigh of relief as he felt them secured in his jean pockets.

He could see his breath against the cold night air as he breathed out, walking towards a main road to flag down a taxi. The night air bit and nipped against his skin leaving bumps running up and down his body. The white t-shirt he had on doing nothing to ward off the cold.

After finally flagging down a taxi he found himself dropped off in front of the restaurant they had all agreed to meet at. It was usually a restaurant for families during the day but at night they closed their doors to anyone underage and their bar would become the main attraction. Hinata glanced at a clock noticing that it was 8:23; he was 23 minutes late. After telling the waiter he was part of the group seated under the name “Daichi” he was showed down a narrow hallway to one of the rooms in the back meant for parties or groups of people wanting separation from others.

The door opened to his team sitting around a round table practically shouting at each other as they talked loudly about everything that had happened in the last year. Hinata smiled at the sight, nostalgia filling his gut. He really had missed this.
After a few more minutes of their loud bickering and explanations everyone started to take notice of him standing in the doorway and the group slowly went silent.

Then much to Hinata’s surprise he found himself tackled by Noya with Tanaka following right behind him, both wrapping him into a big bear hug.

He felt himself laughing as he pried them off him, sitting up to look up at the rest of his now smiling team. Yeah, he really had missed this.

After greeting everybody and finding a spot to sit he found himself bombarded with questions until Suga finally came to his rescue, telling the group that they should try asking one question and the group could answer one by one.

Suga raised his hand to get everyone to quiet down before finally speaking.
“Okay! I’ll start, let’s talk about our dating lives” He then pointed at Asahi who was to the left of him. “You start Asahi!”

Asahi went bright red at the attention and hesitated for a moment before finally stating that him and Noya were still dating. They had started dating almost a year and a half ago and told everyone at the last meet up. Hinata wasn’t surprised since Noya had messaged him about it as soon as it happened.  Noya smiled next to him and reached out, holding onto Asahi’s hand. The question then continued to Tanaka who grumbled about how he was still single. Tsukishima and Yamaguchi both saying the same thing as Tanaka. Ennoshita stated he was engaged with this girl he knew from work and everyone almost lost track of the conversation talking about the wedding before Suga was able to get them back on track to the question. Kinoshita and Narita were both dating someone, and apparently Yachi and Kiyoko were still single. Then it was Hinata’s turn.

“What about you Hinata? Are you still dating Kutabare?” Suga smiled at me as he asked the question. Everyone already knew about who Hinata was dating and how he was gay, so he always felt comfortable talking about Kutabare and how much of a good boyfriend he was. But now he didn’t even want to admit he was still dating him. It felt so wrong.

He went to say yes when he heard a loud buzzing going off which vibrated the table. Kageyama, who was sitting right next to him, looked down at his phone that he had set onto the table. Hinata had glanced down towards the loud vibrating and was surprised to see the caller ID read HINATA. His eyes widened as Kageyama picked it up and then looked at him in confusion.

“Why are you calling me dumbass?”

“It must be Kutabare. I left my phone by accident so he might be calling to make sure I arrived safely” He reached out his hand towards Kageyama adding “Do you mind if I pick up the call?”

Kageyama nodded and handed his phone to Hinata. Taking the phone from Kageyama he stood quickly and walked closer to the wall so no one could hear his conversation, making sure to turn down the caller volume so it wasn’t loud. He knew Kutabare was about to throw one of his fits.

“Hello? Kuso?”

“Hinata get your fucking ass home now.”

Hinata gritted his teeth and tried to keep a neutral face. He saw the whole team’s eyes on him, and he didn’t want them knowing what was going on between him and Kutabare. It wasn’t their business, and he didn’t want them to get unnecessarily involved. He just couldn’t trouble them with this when they had their own lives to deal with.

“I’ll be home soon.” Hinata replied, keeping his voice as nice as possible.

“If you don’t get your ass here now, I will go there.” Hinata’s eyes widened. Kutabare had access to his phone. He was sure that he had seen Suga’s text telling him when and where to meet. And he knew Kutabare wouldn’t hesitate to come and crash this party.

He opened his mouth then closed it. He had to say yes. He needed to say yes and go home. But he couldn’t. He was tired of submitted to the bastard and letting him get his way every time. He didn’t realize he was crying until he heard Kageyama call his name, the eyes of his teammates filled with worry and concern. His resolve set in that moment.

“I’m not going back. We’re done.” And with that he hung up. Relief flooding his body. He looked up to his teammates now shocked faces and smiled. The first real smile in a long time. He was finally free. Until the phone in his hand began to ring once again.

So fun fact, or ig just a fact cause it's not really fun, a lot you will see in this fanfic is based on second hand experience of being there to witness a family member go through trying to get away from her crazy husband.
So things such as the calls and other things are based on real experiences.
