Hinata was shocked by Kageyama’s offer to let him stay at his place. The prospect of staying with Kageyama almost had Hinata jumping to say yes. Thinking about how he would be with Kageyama made him feel safer, protected. It must be because Kageyama has been so nice to him and helped him so much during this time. Yet he couldn’t put Kageyama at risk like this. Hinata straightened up and shook his head at Kageyama. “I can’t. I shouldn’t.”
“Why? You have nowhere else to go! You just said so yourself. Is it because you don’t want to stay with me? You rather call everyone else to find out if they have a place you can stay instead of taking my offer just so you don’t have to be around me?” Kageyama was pissed, while Hinata was absolutely shocked. Did Kageyama think he didn’t like him? Had he always thought Hinata didn’t want to be around him?....
“No, it’s not because I don’t want to be around you. I just can’t risk Kutabare finding out where you live… I don’t want this to affect anyone else. This is my problem-”
“Hinata,” Kageyama interrupted while grabbing Hinata’s shoulders to make him face him more, which turned out to be really awkward for Hinata since his legs couldn’t turn along with his upper half because of his position in between the two in the tight backseat area. “You can stay with me. Kutabare doesn’t know where I live. Even if he did, I promise he wouldn’t be able to do anything to you or me. I wouldn’t let him. I need you to trust me, just like how you did in Highschool.”
Hinata’s eyes widened at Kageyama’s words. Kageyama’s deep blue eyes bore into his own, making him feel as if he couldn’t say no. It would be okay... right? Kageyama was right. Kutabare didn’t know where Kageyama lived and even if he did it’s not like he really could do anything.
“I really can?...” Hinata said.
“I usually have a roommate, but she moved out when her girlfriend proposed to her and bought them a place. So, I have an extra bedroom available. I’ve been looking for a new roommate to take her place, so you can stay until someone takes my offer. Or you could sign the new lease with me and split the rent? Be my new roommate.”
Hinata grew excited. Could he really be Kageyama’s roommate? He didn’t even have to worry about finding a new place. Plus, the rent will be half off! “Is that really okay?!”
“Yeah,” Kageyama replied as he looked away, laughing softly to himself at Hinata’s excitement as he turned to face his window. As he watched the scenery outside go by, he kept thinking about today’s events. Why didn’t Hinata go to the police? It couldn’t be to protect Kutabare. So why? Has Hinata been dealing with Kutabare’s obsessiveness and creepiness for all these years he has been with him? How long has Kutabare been cheating on him, and how long has Hinata known about it?
He felt like Hinata was trying his best to remain strong. After going through everything he has been through today he would expect anybody to be depressed, crying, and/or shut off from others. But Hinata kept his tears in check. He only cried when he was told it was okay to. He kept strong and faced every new obstacle with a brave face. Even now he was talking up a storm with Suga about random things such as how often they cook, trying to keep a smile on his face. Kageyama was glad for the distraction it gave Hinata, but he knew it was only temporary.
Kageyama’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Suga’s phone hooked up to the car through Bluetooth going off. The caller ID on the car’s screen read NOYA so Suga hit the answer button on the screen. “Hey Noya-"
