It was that kind of bomb. It had to be. She had gone through all of the explosives that the packet listed, and this was the only one that perfectly fit the situation. There was a diagram of how it was built, and then instructions on how to turn it off. This was an all-day project, it seemed, and she was about to dedicate the whole next day to getting it done.
And after a brief night's rest, she was ready to do exactly that.
She woke up and read the packet. The first step was to turn off the power. That was a problem, she couldn't leave the apartment. Luckily, she had made a friend here, so she easily could combat the problem.
I will cash-app you $1,000 if you go cut the power to the entire building.
For real?? Yeah, I'll go
Great, just hit the main switch on the fuse box, should be in the basement I think
She sat down on the floor with her packet and waited. As she sat, she remembered that Seven was watching. She turned, then looked at the camera. It wasn't that high up...
She walked over, then looked at it. She felt a pang of sorrow as she half-smiled at the camera. Then, she jumped up and ripped it down. She held her breath as she waited for the consequences. There had to be consequences, there always was.
...
The only consequence was a call from Seven apparently, which she promptly ignored. She would explain everything when this was all done.
She walked back over to the center of the apartment and sat. She pulled out her phone and was met with a text from her friend.
The top one, yeah?
MC looked at the photo. Each home had a fuse, which was convenient but also concerning. Each home had a fuse... And there had to be a hundred fuses there.
Whoever put the bomb here in the first place had to have known that. Was it Rika? Did Rika want to kill this many people? The Rika that the RFA talked about would never... But MC was not them. And MC could see that if this bomb didn't get shut off so many would pay for it. She didn't live under some weird veil where Rika was perfect, and she had to shut down this part of Rika's work.
She had been ignoring her friend.
Yeah, hit it
As soon as the "delivered" appeared, the entire room went dark. She could hear angry neighbors, but it meant that the bomb wouldn't accidentally go off for a while.
She sent the money, then got to work.
---
That evening, she found herself in a dark room surrounded by a torn-up floor and a deactivated bomb. She sat with her legs in the hole, staring at the bomb. It looked like a car battery, but she knew how much it could do. It was a surreal feeling to know how much power was held right next to her in such a tiny box.
Now that it was gone, she knew that she was free to leave.
She headed out the door and into the basement, where she was met by a group of people.
"Oh, sorry, am I intruding?" She asked.
"Yeah, kinda." One said, clearly a few steps from the edge.
"I just got home from work and my apartment was all dark, so I came to check the fuses." She lied.
"That's what we're doing, too." Another explained," But clearly no one here learned anything useful when they grew up."
She rolled her eyes and pushed through them all, making her way to the fuse box. "You didn't either. Look, some kid just turned it off." She flipped the switch, causing the lights to come flickering on. There was a chorus of apologies and thanks, but she just left. She was mostly upset that everyone just seemed to be sitting blaming each other instead of doing something.
Back in her apartment, she sat down at her kitchen table and checked the messenger. Seven had been blowing up her phone, which she ignored. She knew what he was saying, and she was going to explain herself when she was done.
Well, she was done...
But she was so tired.
She opted to read the chat log, then call it quits.
Jaehee: I don't want to cause a riot or anything, but don't you think it's suspicious that she went silent right after the bomb incident was announced?
Yoosung: She wasn't silent, she talked to me!
Zen: I thought you were mad at her?
Yoosung: Yeah, but she apologized.
Jaehee: ...
Jaehee: What if she was making final amends before she pulled us apart from the inside?
Zen: Huh?
Jaehee: What if she's the hacker?
Zen: Jaehee, you've talked to her;;
Zen: She's nice;;
Yoosung: Yeah, I agree!
Jaehee: We've never met her in person. We don't even know what she looks like. It's easy to lie when you're like that.
MC had read enough. She was still causing pain to the others, huh? No matter what she did, she just had to be the bad guy, right?
This was too much. She'd call her therapist in the morning. She quickly changed into pajamas, then fell into bed. Just before she could get to sleep, however, her phone started to ring.
She picked it up. "Hey..." She said, groggily.
"I know it hasn't been that long yet." Her boss was the one who had called her. "But I need you back."
"For what?"
"A rookie made a mistake, too, and now we're battling a double-flood of paperwork. I'm not saying you're going to be doing anything big, but I need you to work for a day or two."
"Yeah, I can do that. You don't need to beg."
"Great. I'll see you at 5 am tomorrow."
She bolted upright. "5 am!?"
"Yeah! I told you it's a lot!" Her boss exclaimed," So you better get to sleep!"
She was going to retaliate, but he hung up. She sighed and fell back again.
She would tell Seven everything... After work. It seems.
