She sat at her desk, staring at the screen. She was waiting for her work to be approved before she could start another batch of paperwork. It was boring, but at least it was helping her be known as a capable agent.

She heard her phone start buzzing and looked down at it. Seven was calling. It was about 1 o'clock already, so it made sense that he'd call her at this point. Somehow she had gotten it in her head that it was still 5 am.

She picked up the phone. "Hey, I bet you have questions."

Seven breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh my god, you're not dead yet."

"No... I'm glad you care about me, though." It was genuine. Over the course of time, his feelings of protectiveness had morphed from a hindrance to a reassurance. She could trust that he'd be there to catch her if she fell, even if she was blocking the path behind her.

"Yeah, listen, I need to know why you broke the security camera."

"I knew you would try to stop me if you knew what I was doing." She explained, "And I needed to do this."

"Do what?" Seven asked.

She raised an eyebrow. "I thought you were keeping track of the bomb's status."

There were a few clicks on Seven's end. "What the... How did you-"

She stopped paying attention when she caught her boss's cold glare. She mouthed "Sorry" to him, then looked back down.

"M-MC?" Seven asked. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, listen, I'm at work right now and my boss is not happy that I'm on the phone right now, I'll call you again when I'm done. And I promise I'll explain everything."

"Okay." Seven agreed, though he sounded hesitant. "Please, call me when you get done."

"I promise. Bye."

"Bye."

She hung up and put her phone down, then brought her attention back to the screen. The new work had loaded, so she had to get working... How would she explain this all to Seven? What would she say? Would he think it was a joke? Would he laugh? She would like to hear his laugh... But not in this context.

You know what else she didn't want to hear? Her boss yelling at her. She had to work now.

"You did good, MC." Her boss said as she started packing up her things.

"Oh, not really. It was like usual, you're just used to me causing trouble." She joked.

"Well, yeah, but also you worked for like 15 hours. You didn't have to do that."

"I wanted to help. Besides, it's nicer here than the apartment." She admitted.

"What's wrong with your apartment?" Her boss asked.

"Oh, I had to tear up the floor to extract and diffuse a bomb that had been placed there years ago." She explained. He laughed, she did not.

"Anyways..." He said, clearly trying to change the subject," Have a good rest of your break."

"I'm still on that?"

"Yeah. I'll see you next week." He smiled and waved. She waved back, but as soon as she turned she made a face. What was wrong with how she worked?

She shook her head to try to clear her thoughts as she headed out the door. It was quiet outside. That was nice for her, as she had decided it was time to call Seven. She pulled out her phone and dialed his number.

"Hey, Seven." She said with a smile. "How are you?"

"How are you?" He deflected. "This is the first time you've willingly and happily talked to me about something in days."

"Yeah, I'll admit, I was being a douche... Wait a minute..."

Are those footsteps?

Before she could register exactly what was happening, she felt hands tighten around her neck. She tried to elbow the attacker, but they just pushed her forwards onto the ground. She felt a sharp pain in the middle of her face as she hit the ground, but couldn't figure out quite why it happened before her world faded to black.
