i turned back around in my seat and saw f/n staring at me with his jaw dropped .

" did i just see joshua bassett , your ex , talk to you for the first time in three months ? " he asked in disbelief .

" i know i cant believe it either , " i said . he squealed like a fan girl and jumped around .

" so what happened ? what did he say ? " he said in excitement and took a seat in front of me .

" he just said hi , " i shrugged , " but then i asked him if he really had a girlfriend and he ran to the bathroom . "

" what a strange guy . "

joshua's pov

i quickly dialed olivia's number , trying to seek help in this situation . after a few seconds , she answered with ' hello ? ' .

" hi liv , um . im at the mall right now and i bumped into y/n , " i paused , " she asked if i really had a girlfriend , and i think shes referring to r/n . "

" ohh , well i told her a while back that you and her were dating . i guess she doesnt know that you two broke up since she blocked you , " liv responded .

" yeah , but i dont know what to do . i mean , i just havent seen her in months and the guilt just came back . i ran away from her , " i said .

" you need to talk to her . tell her that you and r/n broke up , " she said , " do you still have feelings for y/n ? "

i sighed , " i dont know , but i'll try to discuss this with her . "

" okay , good luck , " she said from the other line , then hung up .

deciding to face my fears , i walked out of the restroom and towards y/n .

y/n's pov

f/n looked up behind me and softly gasped .

" what ? " i asked in confusion . he pointed behind me , and i turned around , only to see joshua , " oh . "

" i'll give you guys some time , " f/n smiled and got up .

joshua took f/n's seat in front of me and took a deep breath before saying , " i dont have a girlfriend . "

my eyebrows furrowed in confusion , " but liv told me- "

" i know i know . she told you that i had a girlfriend ... but we broke up recently , " he said .

" oh im sorry , " i said in sympathy . it felt pretty weird talking to my ex after so long .

" its fine ... im also sorry about how things ended between us , " he looked down .

" its okay , i understand , " i smiled . it was time for me to move on . its unhealthy to be hung up on a guy that doesnt like you back .

he stayed silent , i assumed he didnt know what to say . soon , it was getting too awkward , so i decided to leave .

" i should go find f/n before he gets in trouble at one of the stores , " i said , getting up from my chair and walking away .

before i could get too far , he said , " i dont want us to be strangers again . "

i turned around and tilted my head in confusion , " what do you mean ? "

" i know i dont have the same feelings for you as before , but i still want to be friends with you . i miss you , " he admitted .

i thought about it for a moment . would it really be a good idea to be friends with your ex ? wouldnt it be too awkward ?

despite my thoughts , i decided to give him a chance , " yeah okay . i'll give you a call . "

he smiled as i turned around and walked away to go find f/n .

i know joshua and i didnt have that spark anymore .  i was upset about it , but i didnt want us to be strangers either . and it worked out pretty well in the end .
