Yiren was on her way to the field after tutoring. She learned one of her close friends was up to no good and needed to know why. After all, Mia isn't friendly to most people, particularly those outside of her circle. That said, Ryujin wasn't considered a part of the circle.
Although Yeji had assured her it wasn't needed to talk to the blonde about it, Yuna had whispered in her ear that she should if it were possible.
And who would deny Hussey's request? Surely not her.
She found the blonde practicing her plays alone, which eased her worry over having to shoo someone away for privacy. "Hey, Mia. Can we talk?"
"Why does it sound like I'm about to be scolded?"
"I'm not going to scold you. I wanted to ask you about something."
Mia went to retrieve the ball she slung into the goal earlier and returned. Yiren was one of her closest friends so she wouldn't blatantly ignore her. "You're going to scold me."
"Maybe a little."
"I'll have you know that I'm older."
"That means nothing." Yiren chuckled briefly. "But I didn't come here to bicker over our ages."
"That much is clear. You seemed serious. What did I do wrong?"
"You know the answer."
"I'm positive that I do." Mia flung the ball into the net, performing a short victory dance for her ongoing streak.
"Tell me why?" It was more of a demand than a question since Mia admitted to expecting her.
"Your concern for your other friends is cute. You have a good heart. But it's not my place to say."
"So, it's not you? It's someone else?"
Mia's smirk grew, wondering if she should drop obvious clues. Honestly, she was shocked the other hadn't jumped to conclusions right away. "I didn't say that."
"You hinted at it."
"Did I, though?"
"It doesn't look like you're getting anything out of this." Yiren thought for a moment. "Is it Yeonjun?"
"As if I'd listen if she just told me to do it."
"Then it's not Yeonjun?"
"He doesn't look like a she, does he?"
"Then WHO is it?"
"I already told you I'm not saying anything."
"You're not, but you are. You're helping me. Why are you so confusing, Eunji?"
It had been a while since someone used her birth name. Still, her composure didn't falter. She helped enough. It was only a matter of time before Yiren caught on. "Don't call me by that name."
"If you didn't have your walls so high up, then I could help you. My family is well off. I— "
"I don't need your help." The blonde swung for the nth time, having missed the last few shots. As of now, she really wanted this conversation to end.
"You're so stubborn."
"Can we wrap this up? We know how this ends. You'll tell me to stop, and I won't."
"Oh and that's because— "
"Don't bring it up." This was starting to get frustrating for her. Not just the talk, but her focus also. This sport was supposed to be her safe place.
Yiren dropped the topic for now. She would revisit the subject some other time in the near future whenever Mia wasn't so tense. "Can you please stop? Yeji really doesn't like it. Ryujin has been through enough as of late, she doesn't need you to add onto it."
