I trained for weeks physically until I could hold my own against even Clint and Nat, the king and queen of hand to hand combat. After that week though, things started to get tricky.
Dad and I decided it would be wise for me to try to control my affinity for lightning. Dad assumed it would be harder for me, considering I had nothing to harness it through like he had Mjolnir. We began day one with my father just explaining the way things worked when working with lightning. He instructed me that it was important I didn’t get too caught up in the power. It wasn’t until the second day that I actually tried to use the lightning.
Flashback
“Okay. Take it slow now.” Thor instructed me. Tony was also in the room in his suit, just in case things got messy. I closed my eyes as my brow furrowed and I concentrated. I focused on the feeling of the lightning the first time I had used it accidentaly, to save my mother. I put all my thoughts and feelings about that moment into a ball, forcing it towards my upturned hand. I started shaking with the effort. I transfered all the energy I had into that desire to make the lightning appear once again. I struggled for a good five minutes before I started to feel it speed up.
“Dad!” I exclaimed, “I can feel it.” I got excited as I could feel it building up, a strange heat beginning in the palm of my hand. My shaking started to get erratic and the lightning started to spark in my palm. I laughed and smiled with joy and excitement. That was my first mistake. The more energetic I got the more energetic the lightning got, also. My dad began to try to coax me back down from my high.
“Alright,” he began, “now that you’ve got a taste for it I want you to try to mute it. Cover it up and let its power disappear.” I tried, I honestly did but it had already reached the point of no return.
“Dad I can’t. I’m losing control, I can barely ever feel my hand anymore.” I called frantically. My dad looked into my wild eyes with his calm ones, trying to spread the feeling but it just wasn’t working. At that point I lost my words. Every one of my senses were focused on that little growing ball of energy in my right hand. I was paralyzed, rooted in that same spot. I think Tony tried to put his hands on my shoulders while Dad tried to control the lightning but it seemed that since I was the one who made it, I was the only one who could control it. I lost all train of thought as the lightning’s energy surmounted and I began to feel an immense pain in that hand. My mouth formed an “o” shape as my eyes rolled back in my head. My knees collapsed and finally my head struck the floor, shaking my out of the stupor and releasing the lightning from my control. I sparked into the air and disappeared. I didn’t stay awake for long after that. I remember Dad’s hand on my cheek and Tony taking my vitals and him shouting to someone worriedly. I think Dad was asking me a question, but at that point, I was already gone.
