"It will be a couple of weeks before he can go back into the field." Kix said to you as you waited in the hallway, closing the door of the infirmary room. "He'll recover from this no problem, general. You can go in and see him if you want, but he's passed out."

"Good work, soldier." You say, putting your hand on Kix's shoulder. "It's late. You should go rest up yourself now."

"Thanks general." He gave an informal salute to you and made his way off to the barracks of the carrier.

You opened the door of the room and quietly walked over to a chair beside the hospital bed. The captain was sleeping soundly. He looks so peaceful... You thought. The last time you saw Rex's face- which was a few hours ago- he was in immense pain, and it was dispersed all throughout his facial expression.

You reached to take hold of Rex's hand. You were holding it before he was rushed into this room. You were planning to keep holding it throughout the procedures, but once you reached the room, Kix asked you to stay out so he could work efficiently. You always respected the medic's preferences, especially if it meant Rex could get better sooner. So you had settled for standing in the hallway for hours.

During that time, fellow Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker stopped by to ask how things were going. This was his right-hand-man after all. You said you didn't hear any screams of pain so you supposed everything was going okay. Anakin took this as a joke, but you didn't really mean it that way. You guessed it was easier for him to stomach things if there was a little humor involved.

Words could not describe how relieved you were when Kix came out of the room bearing mostly good news. Of course, you could never show it- Jedi are to be flat and emotionless. However, you had taken a few notes from Anakin's book.

Even though it was good news that Rex would be recovering from his injuries, you knew he would suffer knowing he wouldn't be out on the field with his men. He takes immense pride in leading the 501st, and that's where he feels the most sense of belonging. Staying put in a hospital bed is going to be torture for him.

But you needn't worry about that now, since he is sleeping peacefully.

You didn't realize that you had been staring at a sleeping clone captain for about an hour now, so it was time to head back to your room. You stood up as quietly as you could, and made your way out of the room. You noticed him stirring a little bit as you left, but you kept going.

As you walked through the dark hallways, you greeted the clones who were still wandering about. It felt nice to know you weren't the only night owl in your company. But there was one person who you were surprised to see up so late.

"Master Kenobi." You said, running into Obi wan in the hallway.

"Hello there, young one." He said with a smile.

"Hey!" You teased. "I'm not so young anymore. I'm a full-fledged Jedi knight!"

"Of course, and that is why you have been assigned to observe the expert battalions of the 501st and 212th."

"Yes. I am honored to learn more about yours and Anakin's clone forces." You said.

Obi wan leaned in a little closer to you, speaking a bit softer.

"I heard about Captain Rex. Anakin turned in a little earlier so I never heard any word on how he was doing."

"He's going to be fine. Kix said that he'll be out of commission for a couple of weeks, but he'll be back at it in no time."

"That is great news, truly." Obi wan laughed. "I don't know if Anakin will survive without his captain for two whole weeks, however."

You laughed at his joke, and you felt yourself relax a little. You had been so tense ever since you left the battlefield with a wounded Rex. To be honest, it scared you a lot more to see him wounded than anyone else. The thought of losing Rex was unbearable...
