This has been highly requested! Buckle up, people!
This takes place immediately after Morality Part 2, so if you haven't read that, please do so! Basically that section ended with you and Rex reuniting and walking the streets of Naboo to your apartment.

You slammed the door of your apartment closed after you and Rex walked inside. As much as you were excited to be alone with Rex again, nothing could ease the thick tension in the air. He knew details about the rise of the Empire that you did not.

"(Y/N)..." he started, struggling to look at you head on. "What do you know about the rise of the Empire?

"Not much, really." You said, taking a seat on your couch. "I just know that I lost all contact with you and Master Plo Koon, and that the Empire has basically replaced the Republic."

He sighed and looked into your eyes. You could see there were the beginnings of tears in his eyes. "It's much more complicated than that." He said, walking towards you and enveloping you in a tight hug. It wasn't a joyful, romantic hug like before; this was a hug he needed for emotional support.

After a few minutes, you broke the silence. "Can you tell me about it?" You asked.

He slowly pulled away from you and sat down next to you. Then he started his tale.

Rex told you of how Ahsoka Tano was re-introduced to the ranks of the 501st and how he had been promoted to commander to lead the Siege of Mandalore while Anakin and Obi-Wan aided in the attack on Coruscant. But those were just the minor details.

He told you of the trip back to Coruscant, when they had captured Maul and thought they had won. But it was not a pleasant trip after that.

Rex told you about receiving the order, having his inhibitor chip removed, and crash-landing, killing so many of his brothers. He had to leave Ahsoka behind, and there's still no sign of what happened to Anakin and Obi-wan. You could only hope they're still okay.

"I can't even begin to explain to you what it felt like to have something in my head forcing me to kill one of my best friends..." He said, his voice breaking. He cleared his throat. "It makes me almost glad that my brothers on that mission didn't have to suffer it for long."

"Rex... I'm so sorry." You said. "Maybe if I was there to help, I-"

"No, (Y/N). None of this is your fault. Palpatine's evil intentions went over the heads of even the strongest jedi. Plus, since you left the order, you weren't in immediate danger, so I didn't have to worry about you as much as I would have."

"What do you mean immediate danger?"

"Well..." He started. "All the Jedi were on the hit list for the order. Since you left the order, you're not technically a Jedi... but you're still a powerful force-wielder. We have to be cautious and assume that they'd be after you too."

"Oh." Was all you could manage.

"You seem to be doing okay here though." He said, gesturing to your apartment space.

"I get by." You said with a light laugh. The temporary light mood was cut short quickly. "What have you been doing all this time?"

"In short, I've been looking for you." He said. "And now...." He held both of your hands in his. "Now I have you."

You noticed a tear drop from his face onto your hand. You leaned in and gave him a loving kiss on the cheek. "I'm not going anywhere. I'll be with you forever." You said.

The two of you sat in comfortable silence for a long time. Eventually you both made your way to the bed, half-asleep.

Even after all of the horrible news he had to break, you were still extremely happy that you were with Rex again. You got the best sleep you've gotten in a whole year.
