Link's POV
"How are you feeling, boy?" Asks Rusl. He gently lifts my right arm, now wrapped in layers of gauze, then examines my right leg as well. "Do you have any recollection of what happened?"
I lay there staring down at my arm, not knowing what to say. "Um, no, I don't completely remember what happened before I got injured as well."
Rusl sighs, and turns to grab a salve of some sort from the counter. "You have a broken right arm, your right leg has been cut, and your right foot has ripped tissue and veins. Doesn't look too pretty if you ask me."
I turn my gaze to my leg, and see a red line through gauze running from above my knee to the back of my calf. My right foot is all pink and purple, swollen where veins used to be, and bumpy where the ripped tissue is. I avert my eyes from the gruesome sight, and look back towards Rusl. He's looking out the window, at a squirrel sitting on the ledge eating an acorn. he looks back at me after a few seconds.
"I'm Rusl, if you were wondering," he states, "and you are?"
I don't speak immediately, only let out an 'umm'. Maybe I can play it off as amnesia? I think to myself.
"I see you might have a slight case of amnesia, nothing too harmful I suppose." Yes, I think, he bought it. I don't want to be rude, but I don't want to be known again in this village, at least not like this, and not to the guy who was like my father.
He grabs the salve and a new, clean bandage off the table and puts it beside the bed on the nightstand. He takes off the bandage, now clinging to the dried blood on my leg, revealing a massive cut that will no doubt turn into a scar.
"All of your injuries are going to take quite some time to heal. Your foot, about three to four weeks, the cut the same. Although I wouldn't guarantee the arm healing in that time frame."
"How long until I can walk?"
"I think you should rest for at least a week or two before you try walking." That's too long, I think.
"Anyway to speed up the healing process?"
"Rest is my best guess, son."
-
"I have a way we can help you heal."
I open my eyes in shock, seeing that Midna has flown into the room and is now perched on top of the table looking down at me.
"How?" I ask.
"There's a Shaman," she begins, "in Kakariko Village. He heals Gorons and Zoras, along with humans."
"How do you know he's actually that good though?" Midna smiles and winks with the one eye that isn't covered, giving a hint that she's thought this whole plan through.
"Princess Zelda told me to take you to visit him. I think we can trust her on this." She states simply. Princess Zelda knows many people, and has been taught by many people. I should probably trust her.
I remember suddenly that I'm injured. "Rusl told me I shouldn't move for at least a week," I reply to her statement.
"We can get a horse, I'm pretty sure we can find someone who has a horse." Midna was right. We can easily find a way to get to Kakariko village before I'm fully healed, without having to waste a lot of time either.
"That sounds like a good idea, but I'll have to convince Rusl. He's set on keeping me here until I'm well enough to walk. He said it could take a few weeks." Midna sighs and turns her attention towards the window.
"It's so quiet in this village," she frowns, "do any children live here?" I turn my head towards the window as well. Midna hops off the table and floats closer to the window, looking down to see the village more closely.
"Now that you say it, I've noticed that too," I croak while sitting up.
"Are you sure you should be sitting? Why don't you have one more day to rest before we try to ask for you to leave. Rusl might feel better too." I sigh, but listen to Midna and lay back down on the mattress. I take a sip of the green tea set out for me on the table, probably brought up by Uli, Rusl's wife. I hold the glass that's half-empty with green tea as I rest my head back on the pillow.
"I'll talk to Rusl when he comes up." I state.
"Alright," she begins, "I'm going to go see if I can find a horse to bring you to Kakariko Village." She jumps out the window, taking flight short after. At Midna's mention of a horse, I think of Epona and where she would have run off to. I hope she's okay I think, I wouldn't want anything to happen to her. I set the green tea back on the table, and close my eyes, falling asleep shortly.
Thankfully, the nightmares don't appear tonight.
