The silence awoke her.The trees were still.
The warmth of the sun sent shivers down her spine.
The usual melodies of the yellow canaries had become nothing but empty.
The clouds had faded and the sky was empty.
The bed straight across from her was empty.
The house was empty.
Her smile was empty.
Her heart- her heart wasn't empty.
Because it had shattered a year ago.
It wasn't empty because it couldn't be full.
You can't fix a broken heart if there wasn't anyone to help you heal it.
The only person that could make her feel okay again was gone forever.
And the silence was the only thing keeping her company.
She rolled out of bed and didn't even bother to look presentable, knowing that no one would even bother to check in on her. She knew that if she were in a hurry and didn't look where she was going, no one would crash into her because all everyone did lately was run away from her emptiness. They feared loneliness as if it were a virus- if it were a plague. That if they were to even look at her, they'd be hit with self deprecation. That the empty feeling was airborne and that if she layed a pinky, even on their clothed skin, the forsakenness would insert itself into their rumorous mouths, their stubborn ears, and blind eyes, and spread through their non illusory veins. That the fever would strike their cold hearts and surround it with an icy barricade. That if she were to perform any sort of tumultuous behavior, their ears would bleed red with fury. They believed that their presumptuousness had no affect on her, that she'd be happier and better off alone. That the silence was enough.
But they were dead wrong.
She wanted someone- she needed someone, someone to hold her and tell her everything would be okay. She needed someone to comfort her as she cried an infinite sea of perpetual tears as her misery enveloped her in an indestructible and impenetrable palisade. She needed someone to fill the unbearable silence.
But that someone was already gone.
She pushed open the creaky gate and walked along the pavement, aligned with stones and dew covered grass.
It was silent here too.
Even she didn't make a sound.
She kept walking, her footsteps synchronized with the beat of her desolated heart.
Her tears cascaded down her flushed cheeks, and she wasn't sure where the rain started and where her tears ended. It was all just one big, melancholy blur.
Much like the day where she lost the one person she needed.
Much like the day where the one person she needed lost her.
Much like the day where they broke each other's hearts.
Much like the day the silence arrived.
She shook the solitary feeling out of her wary and cluttered head.
She kept walking down the path, staring at the dark clouds that rolled in, leaving no trace of the morning she woke up to.
How was it possible that someone could just leave?
How is it possible that someone's here one day and you're both laughing and screaming and crying and talking, and then the next day they're gone?
They just leave from your life without a goodbye and all you can do is sit in silence and wonder what you did wrong.
But the thought of knowing that someone you loved was in pain for so long and they hid it so well, is so much worse than the feeling of self pity and hatred eating you alive from the inside of your hollow soul.
She just wished she could've known what happened and what she could've done to prevent their falling out.
Because when you lose someone you love, you lose a part of yourself too.
But the person she loved was her everything.
So she lost herself entirely.
She was just like a ghost.
Except she wasn't the one who was dead.
"Lisa." She whispered softly, trying her best to stop the tears from falling. But she couldn't. She dropped to the ground, her knees roughly hitting the mud, falling to the edge of the mausoleum. The world erupted with the silent sounds of sorrow. The bundle of daisies fell from her hands and were drenched in the pouring rain. Thoughts danced through her head, taunting her with the fact that she was nothing but a liability.
But of course, there was nothing but silence.
