School had started out beyond boring. Nothing exciting happened besides Professor Lockhart being completely dumb. This was almost a relief for Lily- everything was just normal. She'd admit, she was still getting over the awkward summer between her and Snape, but they hadn't said a word about her trauma since.
Lily was in defense against the dark arts class, listening to Lockhart table on about how to reverse dark curses, when he described a potion remedy for one of the curses. He stared at Lily the whole time judgmentally, knowing her high grade in potions and not liking to see others being successful. He of course blamed all of her success on the fact that her father was the potions professor, thought he couldn't mention it because the student body was not supposed to know. This frustrated Lily, yes she was the best in all of second year at potions, but it wasn't because her father was the teacher.
"I attribute all my talent and success to myself, of course, while some of you can't say the same." Lockhart announced, constantly bragging about himself.
Harry, who was also in this class at the time followed Lockharts gaze to Lily, who was taking notes with an oddly strong grip on her quill
"Lily! Can you answer the question on the board, or are you too busy caught in the gaze of my independent success." Lockhart continued.
"Yes, the answer to the question on the board is three ounces of rose quartz. Did you expect me to say that, or are you too busy being jealous of my independent success?" Coco said, and there was a small "oooooohhhh." from the rest of the class.
"Detention later, Ms. Star. Class dismissed." Lockhart said. That class was about an hour, but felt like an eternity. Lily sighed and stood up, knowing she'd have to inform Severus on her detention.
Ron and Hermione caught up to her in the hallway.
"Lily! Harry's going to quidditch practice, would you like to join us?" Hermione invited.
"Yes, of course." Lily happily replied.
"Excuse me, delinquents, I have to speak to Mrs. Star here." A low and slow voice came from behind them. Lily jumped at the sudden surprise.
Ron gave her wide worried eyes before walking off with Hermione.
"What's up?" Lily breathed after entering a teacher room with Snape.
"Professor Lockhart's just informed me of your inability to keep your mouth shut during his classes." He said in a monotone voice.
"Already? How desperate can he get? It's not my fault he's jealous of how good I am at potions. He always sasses me like you being my father is the reason for my good grades." Lily huffed. "So he gave me detention! Can you believe it? He's such a fraud I can just tell, he's practically a squib anyways when it comes to performing spells." She added with sass. A funny grunt came out of Severus's closed mouth and a small smirk was on his lips.
"Lockhart's an interesting individual who I don't particularly trust- BUT - as he is one of your Professors, you must treat him with respect." He said. "His detention is tonight at 5:00. That's all." Severus said before leaving the room abruptly.
Lily sighed, and looked out of one of the nearby windows that overlooked the quidditch pitch. She saw the slytherins enter, facing the Gryffindors who had hurried to get ready for practice
"Oh no." She mumbled, before hurrying off to the nearest exit.
She walked quickly over to the commotion, seeing Ron and Hermione now there as well. She could hear Draco from afar.
"No one asked your opinion, you filthy little mudblood." Draco insulted.
"DRACO!" Lily yelled angrily as she started to reach them.
"You'll pay for that one, Malfoy." Ron growled, and shot a spell at Draco, which backfired in his broken wand and his her instead, who was right next to Ron.
"I-I'm sorry Lily. I've got a broken wand." Ron gasped. The Slytherins laughed at the fact that the hex didn't hit Malfoy, and so did Draco, until he realized that it had hit Lily. He left the pact of green cloaks and arrived at Lily's side. She was doubled over, face a horrible green tint, clutching her stomach and throat. She began slowly puking up slugs.
"Get-" She threw up again. She put her hand on Draco's shoe so that he knew she was talking to him.
"Professor Snape." She ended, throwing up a very large slug.
"Malfoy is disgusting." Ron growled as Draco hurried off to the castle.
"Let's bring her to Hagrid's." Harry said quickly. He put his arm around her waist, so her arm was above his shoulder. He stood up and brought her up too, the Ron and Hermione helped her to Hagrid's hut. The rest of the Slytherin team only stopped laughing because Malfoy seemed to care, and he shoved one of them on his way to the castle.
Lily sat in Hagrid's hut, feeling disgusting. A couple times a minute she puked slugs into a bucket, and completely ignored the conversation that Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Hagrid were having. She only looked up from the bucket when Ron put his arm around her.
"I'm really sorry." He said.
"You had the right intentions." She forgived. Hermione tied Lily's hair back with a blue ribbon, and Harry rubbed her back.
"Malfoy deserved wha' should've com' his way." Hagrid said. They remained like this for minutes, Lily throwing up slugs, and Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Hagrid catching up- until without warning, Professor Snape opened the door and quickly walked in.
"Weasley, I see you've yet again managed to ruin things with your broken wand." He said slowly and beyond judgmentally, staring at Lily the whole time. He hesitated in what to do next - he couldn't let them know that he was Lily's father. Hagrid knew of course, as a staff member of Hogwarts. As if Lily read Severus'a mind, she wiped at her mouth, then said,
"They know." Lily said, and wiped the sweat bending up on her forehead with her sleeve.
"What?" Snape said with no emotion, yet they could all tell he wasn't happy with this.
"We know you're her biological father." Harry announced. You could almost physically see tension in the room, until Lily threw up another big slug and went into a coughing fit.
"I'll deal with you later." Snape quickly said to everyone else but Lily, then quickly but stiffly walked over to her side. The look he gave Harry and Ron to back off was unmatched, and they did exactly that.
He went down on a knee next to Lily and hesitantly put his hand on her back. Her eyes were watery from throwing up so much, and she was breathing heavily.
"Wealsey?" Snape asked slowly while still looking at Lily. Harry and Hermione nervously looked at Ron.
"Y-Yes?" Ron responded.
"I'll see you in detention tonight." Snape replied so calmly that it was scary.
"Liliana, take the bucket, we're going to the castle." Severus determined. He helped her stand up and put a hand on her back as he lead her to the Hogwarts Castle.
"You have to wait this hex out, but you can sit in my office while you do." Severus said.
