Lily's POV
"Babes! I miss you!" Yelled Dexter over face time whilst I danced around the kitchen aimlessly, looking for a snack. I was in my pink sports bra and my black pj shorts since I was pretty warm.
"I miss you too, Dex! For real." I replied as I began looking through the fridge for something to eat. Originally, I was supposed to get a drink so I didn't dehydrate or anything in the heat, but I also wanted a snack so I decided to pick out my food first.
"Have you been speaking to Payt lately?"
"Eh. Define 'lately'. Last time we spoke was like a week ago, he was just checking in on me. Why'd you ask?"
"He doesn't seem himself." Stated Dexter, making it clear he was worried and I stopped looking through the fridge to look at Dexter, looking for any sign that he was joking but he looked dead serious.
"Okay... how so?"
"He's not all smiley and bubbly like normal."
"Think I should check in on him?"
"Definitely."
"Okay, I'll call you back later!"I quickly hung up on Dexter and pulled up Payton's contact, instantly hitting the FaceTime button.
After a couple of rings he picked up, his face clear on my screen but he wasn't happy like normal, making my brows furrow.
"Hey, you okay?" I dumbly asked, my voice full of concern as I closed the fridge door and lent against it, deciding Payton was more important than my snack."Yeah, I'm fine. You?" He lied in reply. Payton was always a bad liar, and this time round his half-dead tone and black circles under his eyes gave him away.
"Payt, don't lie to me. What's up?"
He sighed, looking away from the screen, fiddling with his hands as he sat on his bed. He looked back at his phone.
"I think we should stop being friends." He stated in a tone that didn't sound like he cared and I swear my heart shattered as my smile dropped off of my face."What? Why-"
"Not forever, just for a bit. I need a break... from you- and I know that sounds dumb, but I... it's hard loving you and watching you love someone else." He paused, his gaze falling back to his hands whilst I gulped down the sob waiting to come out of me, blinked away the tears threatening to spill.
"I'm sorry, Lil. I hope you understand. I just need some me time, and when I've figured everything out-"
"When you don't love me anymore." I finished for him, trying to sound understanding despite how hurt I actually was, but I understood that he was hurting too. He nodded slowly.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I understand." I tried to reassure him, plastering on a fake smile as my eyes became watery again and he gave a soft chuckle as he looked at me and shook his head.
"You're still beautiful, even when you're trying not to cry, y'know that?"
I unwillingly giggled as I rolled my eyes.
"Thanks?" I unsurely replied, pressing the palm of my one hand to my eye, wiping away the tears threatening to spill.
"Just promise I'll get you back. Promise this isn't the last time we'll talk. Promise me the minute you feel you can, you'll message me again and nothing will change in our friendship... please." I pleaded, not caring how desperate I sounded and he nodded as he smiled softly at me, his eyes filling with tears too.
"I promise. This is only temporary. I love you."
"I love you too." I choked out before he hung up and I slid down the fridge, curling myself up, placing my head on my knees as I allowed my tears to fall. This shit hurt. I sobbed for what felt like hours but for what was probably only ten minutes in reality."Oh shit." I heard a voice mumble and when I looked up from my sobbing I saw Josh.
"S-sorry." I mumbled my apology, wiping my eyes quickly and Josh quickly shook his head.
"It's fine. I, uh, should I get Jaden?"
I instantly shook my head.
"No, it's fine. Thank you, though. I'm just gonna... go take a nap. Please, don't tell Jaden?"
I didn't want Jaden worrying about me anymore than what he already had been. I must have seemed to fragile lately.
