"can i try?" jaeyoung questioned as she entered the fencing room, where some of the boys hung out today. yuta pushed up the fencing mask, gesturing at the sword, "you mean...?"

the girl nodded simply whilst taeil scrunched his nose. "a princess—"

"i'm not a princess." she deadpans leaving taeil to shut his mouth. "please? just a try."

yuta shrugged, "doesn't hurt to try." he stated and went over the cabinet.

the other boy, who happened to be ten, also pushed up his mask. "maybe she could use... um, do we have a small suit?"

"try jisung's old one!" ten exclaimed and went close to the cabinet, fumbling through the old uniforms. "here! these probably belonged to the younger ones– they kinda grew out of it." he said and lifted the white fencing suit before handing it over to the girl.

ten guided her towards the changing room and as she got out taeil helped her place the mask on her. "you know, you shouldn't be doing this." he uttered while jaeyoung just laughed, "i know..."

yuta had taught her the three different disciples in fencing. after a simple quick discussion, yuta did a little match with her, to which of course he won easily.

"you're pretty good at this." yuta complimented, taking off the mask and went to hug the girl. jaeyoung smiled, "talk about you being such a professional."

"hey, um, do you want to roam around the village with me and ten later?" yuta questioned her as they went to fetch some water.

jaeyoung smiled, nodding at him, "i'd love that!"

taeil brought her back to her room, talking about how she had been coping up through the weeks of being in a different surrounding. jaeyoung was honestly scared and nervous at first, as she knew very well of how different the royal's world inside the palace compared to the village.

to jaeyoung, taeil always felt like a caring older brother to her as he would always be there to remind her something. as one of the quiet ones and the oldest out of the eighteen princes, she could see how he would always be there to help the younger ones.

"remember jaeyoung, when you go out the palace, always stick to ten and yuta, okay?" kun told her, patting the top of her head as they went to see her off with the two other princes.

sicheng crinkled his nose, a short chuckle emitting from his lips, "hyung, i think she knows that already."

kun frowned, "i'm just making sure. kids these days are pretty much chaotic."

jaeyoung gaped at his words, reaching to poke his side making him laugh. "i think you're warming up to the mother title they always give you."

"hey, no!" he shakes his head and lightly pushed her towards the carriage.

"i'll see you two later." she waved at them and took ten's hand as he helped her up the carriage.

"this is pretty scary..." she said, examining the inside of the carriage.

yuta assured her, "there isn't a storm, jaeyoung. we'll be fine."

arriving at the town centre, people greeted them joyfully and even offered them different presents to which they politely thanked for. a little boy ran up jaeyoung, a big smile on his face as little girl followed him behind.

"pretty princess!" the little girl exclaimed, pointing up to jaeyoung, shock immediately filled her.

"wait– you're the kids mark and i met at the playground." jaeyoung giggled, crouching down as the kids gave her a hug.

"noona! i told you, you're a princess!" the boy, who introduced himself as minjae, said with a big smile.

the little girl, who was sora, nodded at his brother's words, "yes, unnie! prince mark's pretty princess!"

yuta glanced at jaeyoung who continued to talk to the little kids. his heart warmed seeing her get along with them. he slowly crouched down to their level, waving his hand towards the kids.

sora blinked, "prince yuka!"

jaeyoung and ten burst a laugh while yuta looked bewildered. "y-yes... i'm yuka for today." he chuckled and patted the young girl's head.

after a few more time playing with the kids, sadly they had to say goodbye. the trio walked around the central town, enjoying the winter breeze against their skin.

"i guess you met those kids at the park when mark took you out after exams?" ten looked at the girl beside him and she chuckled, "we sure did."

"oh? injae-yah!" she flinched at the nickname and started looking around for the person who called her. locking eyes with girl, she felt joy in her heart, immediately running towards her.

"miyeon-ie!" a tear escaped from her eyes, engulfing the taller girl into a hug.

"you must've missed me that much, huh?" miyeon chuckled, pointing at the tears of joy jaeyoung had.

jaeyoung sniffed, a pout on her lips, "of course!"

miyeon sniggered, "i visited you a few days ago!"

"wasn't enough." jaeyoung mumbled and let go of her friend.

"have you been taking care of her well, hm?" miyeon said in a strict tone, pointing at the boys.

ten gulped and nodded, "of course!"

yuta laughed, "she having so much fun actually."

miyeon smiled and pinched jaeyoung's cheeks making the latter yelp at the sudden action. "i'm glad."

they spend the rest of the day together, laughing their butts off as they enjoyed each others company. to jaeyoung, it felt like she's found everything she had been wondering about since she was young.

the last thing she ever wishes for was to see her parents, maybe, just maybe, on the day of her birthday she would be able to see them again.
