CHAPTER ONE:
THE LETTER

A PEN WAS PLACED between her lips as she scanned over the tree she had drawn. She was sitting in her room, placed on the window seat so that natural sunlight helped her see her drawing. It was a distraction that Estella enjoyed, something she and her sister both shared. Her sister. Luna Star was in an unknown location, and no matter how many times she tried to pry information out of her aunt, August always claimed she had no clue of Luna's location.

It absolutely frustrated Estella to no end. Estella had never really been close with her parents like she had been with Luna. Even though Luna was five years older than her and was probably twenty-one somewhere getting drunk off her ass at the current moment, though alcohol didn't seem to be Luna's forte, she was too kind-hearted for that. Estella was always closer to her. They shared a bond that no other sibling with that time gap ever shared.

Luna was the more rational of the two siblings. Estella was the loud mouth that asked questions about the stupidest things like why the grass was green, or why did the seasons have certain temperatures. Estella was a curious person, and one day it was going to get her killed. Literally. But of course, Estella didn't know this yet.

She bit her lip as her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. She was trying to get the tree limbs right. Why she was drawing a tree? She had no clue. She just had this thing for nature. Nature was her favorite to draw, especially roses because they reminded Estella of Luna. Luna Rose Star was a beautiful soul. She always managed to brighten up a room, she managed to laugh at absolutely nothing. Her laugh was so contagious that even if they were sitting in an angry silence, it could instantly be healed by her laugh.

Estella missed her sister, so much. And it pained her to know that Luna didn't stay for her. She didn't understand why her sister left so soon. Estella huffed as she slammed her sketchbook and pen down. Her head was placed in her hands, the palm of her hands rubbing against her temples as she felt an oncoming headache. Every time she thought about her sister, she always got so stressed out and she would always get a migraine.

Estella huffed before getting up from her window seat. She left her lavender colored room and walked down the steps into the kitchen. She opened the medicine cabinet and pulled out the Advil before taking a glass of water and swallowing the pill.

"Stell!" August Masters called as she entered the room. Estella hummed in response as she finished drinking her water. "I'm going out, I'll be home later tonight."

"Try tomorrow morning." Estella mumbled as she placed her glass in the sink.

"Estella." August started, turning to look at the sixteen year old. Estella waved her off.

"It's fine. Have fun getting drunk and sleeping with the first guy you see." Estella sarcastically smiled before turning around again. August frowned and opened her mouth to speak before deciding against it. August turned on her heel and grabbed her car keys before walking out of the home and slamming the front door. Estella rolled her eyes.

"That woman is so extra, I swear." She mumbled. Estella heated up herself some left over lasagna before walking into the living room and turning on the television. She flipped through the channels until she decided on a show called The Vampire Diaries. She was focused sorely on the TV. "Damn, if I wasn't gay I would say you were one fine ass vampire." Estella mumbled to herself. Presumably becoming bored with staring at a TV screen, Estella decided to straighten up.

She started with the kitchen, cleaning up all of the dishes like she usually did. She then moved on to the living room and then the bathroom downstairs. Once she moved up stairs, she cleaned the bathroom upstairs and then went to her room which was mostly straightened up all but her bed and the sketchbook she had thrown earlier.

Estella, after finishing that, daringly walked into her aunts room and let out a noise of disgust at the mess that it was.

"How can someone stand to live like this?" Estella asked, her nose scrunching up at the several scattered papers and clothes lying all over the floor. Estella first started with the bed, fixing the messy sheets and blankets. She then moved to the floor, grabbing the many scattered clothes and throwing them into the laundry basket. Estella grabbed the pieces of papers on the floor, mumbling curses to herself as she pressed the papers into a neat stack. She turned to place them on the desk and let out a groan when a smaller sheet fell from the stack.

Estella placed the papers onto the desk before bending down to grab the fallen paper. She sat on top of the stack and glanced briefly at it before turning. She stopped dead in her tracks and slowly turned back towards the paper that held her sisters name on it. It was in an envelope. Estella picked it up and pulled out the piece of notebook paper that was inside of the envelope.

Deciding to wait, Estella quickly left the room with the paper and envelope in her hand before entering her own bedroom and quickly closing the door. Estella sat down on the bed, her legs crossed Indian style as she fingered the notebook paper in her hand. She swallowed thickly as she bit down on her bottom lip. Should she open it? It was for her aunt and not for her. This was invading her aunt's privacy.

Estella shook her head before she sighed. "Here goes nothing." She mumbled before opening the paper and letting her eyes scan over the neatly written words.
